Can incoming freshman add/drop classes online or must they go through their advisor? My son needs to switch a class. His advisor said he could make changes after August 1 online. After reviewing the class offerings, I called the school to ask questions(why do different sections of the same class meet for different legths of time..some meet 5 hours a week, some only 3) The School said that they couldn't explain but it doesn't matter since only the advisor can make schedule changes for freshman.

I think your son can make the changes himself online, but I would suggest he check with the adviser, as there may be things about the options he doesn’t understand. And, I know its hard to let go, but, in my opinion, you should let your son have the experience of going to the school with any questions. Its important for him to develop the ability and confidence to do so. It’s his education now. (easier said than done, I know)

Just got this from Registrar in response to email inquiry:

New students cannot change their schedules without the permission of their Assistant Deans office. Please contact your Assistant Deans office for advice.

If there are any changes to be made it can be done at that time with the permission of your Assistant Deans office.

Never mind. Called Assistant Dean’s office and they said it can be done online without permission. Go to add, drop or swap and sure enough it’s there.
