Questions

I really like Penn, but I have a few questions that I would like you all to answer:

How common is it to take classes in one of the other colleges (ex. a Wharton major taking classes in the College)?

I am under the impression that being a fiscal conservative should be no problem at Penn, but will I be ostracized for being a SOCIAL conservative?

Do students actually go to the basketball and football games (even at an Ivy League school, I don't want to lose that)?

Does everyone seem to love the traditions that were a big reason why I liked Penn?

How easy is it for Wharton majors to study abroad?

Do people often go into Center City Philadelphia?

Bump. If anyone can answer any of these questions, it would be much appreciated.

How common is it to take classes in one of the other colleges (ex. a Wharton major taking classes in the College)?

Very common. I know Wharton people taking Engineering classes… College kids taking Nursing classes. It’s very common, and the classes are usually very interesting too. I’m a premed chem major in the College taking victimology in the Nursing school and legal studies in Wharton (they’re kinda GPA booster classes…so).

I am under the impression that being a fiscal conservative should be no problem at Penn, but will I be ostracized for being a SOCIAL conservative?

You won’t be OSTRACIZED… Just don’t be so vocal and proud about it. Most people here are socially liberal (which is expected at most top universities), so you WILL be the minority anywhere you go…

Do students actually go to the basketball and football games (even at an Ivy League school, I don’t want to lose that)?

Some of the big football games (like homecoming vs. Princeton) have huge turnouts… Mens basketball games (especially homecoming once again) have decent turnouts for home games against other Ivies. If you want to go to sporting events with people who like going to sporting events… join the Penn Band or the Red and Blue Crew…

Does everyone seem to love the traditions that were a big reason why I liked Penn?

The toast throwing at Football games is always a fun time. There are bunch of tiny reasons why Penn is so loved by its students, and the traditions make up many of those tiny reasons.

How easy is it for Wharton majors to study abroad?

Very easy… https://spike.wharton.upenn.edu/ugrprogram/advising/studyabroad/whartonapprovedprograms.cfm

I know a Whartonite who studied abroad in China. There are a bunch of study abroad opportunities for ALL undergrads.

Do people often go into Center City Philadelphia?

Yes… for dinner, social events, clubbing, shopping, etc… You will go into Center City veryyy often. Not to mention, public transportation is super easy to use.

Hi. I’m a parent of a Penn student.

It is very common to take classes in different schools. Even freshmen students can take classes in several schools.

My d goes into Center City very often. She has walked across the bridge, taken a taxi and navigated the train.
