Quick Facts about "Likely Letters"

That does not pass the reasonableness test.

I got my likely letter for diving in November for reassurance that I would be admitted dec 15 because I was already told by Princeton and UVA that if I applied I would be admitted so I wanted assurance that my top choice Yale was going to admit me because if I applied and didn’t get it I would have lost my recruiting spots at the other two schools so my coach got me one. The big state schools sign students very early in the year and Princeton and harvard start giving out liklies nov 1 for athletes so if Yale didn’t ever give liklies to their athletes alot of them would opt for the good state schools or hp

Sorry I mean they start giving them out on oct 1 at hp so dec 15 is alittle late to find out. Hence the reason for likely letters for athletes at least

wjb:
if you were here since 2004, you would have seen this person speaking on the forums. I forgot his name, but he wanted to study BME I am thinking.

^^You can’t believe everything you read on CC. Unless the applicant accomplished something absolutely extraordinary between December and February (and I can’t imagine what that might be) there is no way Yale would send a likely letter to a deferred candidate.

800’s in USH, WH, Math2
No ACT

Excellent Letters of Recommendation from teachers (“once-in-a-career student”) as well as counselor.

Pretty well-written essays, probably above the 50th percentile for the average acceptee (yeah, I made that word up).

Honestly though, I did not expect the LL. I was as shocked as you, the reader, probably are. I’m flattered by Yale, but I’m still deciding between Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, though I do prefer Yale and Princeton more than Harvard, at least for the moment.

Congratulations, larmonely!

I hope you will attend Bulldog Days, it might help you make your decision. The “Why I chose Yale” video is good, too.
