So many schools have the deadline of March 2nd to submit all financial aid documents. I was wondering if we need to submit an updated FAFSA for the 2014 tax year by this deadline as well. I already submitted my FAFSA early January for the schools I was applying using information from the 2013 tax year. If schools have received this version, do I need to submit the updated version for the current tax year by the deadlines as well?
Your initial FAFSA submission meets the deadlones. BUT any financial aid award you receive using estimates will be an estimated award. Your final award will not be an accurate one until you update your FAFSA indicating you have completed your taxes.
Many schools also want you to link to the IRS Data Retrieval Tool…and this usually can’t be done until a couple of weeks after your taxes are submitted.
And lastly, if you are selected for verification, you will have to complete that process before any aid will be disbursed to you.
SOOOO. This is not the year to wait until April 15 to get your taxes completed. Get them done asap, and update that FAFSA. You want a finalized award by the end of April so that you can make an I formed matriculation decision.
@thumper1 thanks for the informative answer! We already have our taxes files due to the IDOC deadlines, so it’s just a matter of resubmitted information.
