does anyone know what scale maryland uses to calculate gpa (4.0 scale)? and, also, when reviewing an applicant's transcript, do they calculate gpa based on their scale or do they use the gpa calculated by the applicants' high school? thanks.

most colleges use their own re-calculation of GPA.

thanks. so then, who knows where can i find maryland's gpa scale?

edit: i've searched their website and can't find anything. so do any current students know?

they use the honors + ap courses gpa to calculate their average freshmen gpa (3.94 something) pretty much if you live in maryland or montgomery county, ur high school gpa will be calculated the same way umd does.

i got to a private school, though. what is the scale for public schools?

does it really matter now i mean we have like a week till we find out, some people already have

who cares how gpa is calculated. doesnt matter if weighted or wat not. if they look and see a lot of c's not getting in. all a's getting in barring sat scores. whats done is done

i just noticed my school doesn't calculate gpa the same as everyone else. i'm terribly sorry for being curious and asking a question on a forum that is intended to answer such questions.

baltimore-- if your GPA is calculated out of a different number than 4.0, they'll recalculate so it's on a 4.0 scale. if courses are weighted differently than most schools, they'll recalculate it for the "typical" scale. i don't know the details, but the reason your counselor sends a description of your HS's grading system to universities with your app is so that they can recalculate your GPA properly.
