Quick question about Selective Scholarships

Hey everyone,

I am not too sure why I wasn't eligible/selected to apply for the Hutton Honors College Scholarship when I got my acceptance email . However, I was selected to apply for the Kelley Scholars Program and Hudson & Holland Scholars Program. My stats are 1350/1600 SAT and 4.0 gpa. Should I definitely email an admissions representative?

You should contact Jill Baker, who is the director of recruiting and admissions for Hutton Honors College.

Definitely apply to Hudson Holland. It is a very generous program, especially if you keep your gpa over 3.7 (worth $7,000 per year if over 3.7; worth $5,000 per year if over 3.0). They will help you get adjusted to college life and help with getting internships and professional development, too. It is a great program.

Here is a profile of an Indiana kid with Ecuadorian roots that is in Hudson Holland.

Thank you very much bthomp1. I have contacted her and I hope to get a positive response back.
I am very excited at the thought of becoming a Hoosier and can’t wait to visit the campus soon.

Another question, can I be in Hudson & Holland and the Honors College at once? And if so, are the merit awards combined?

They will not combined the scholarships Hutton and HHSP awards. They won’t take one away if you get another, you keep them both. Definitely get into Hutton, as Hutton students can take a lot of Kelley classes that direct admits are not eligible for, including the honors versions of K201, X201, X104, X204, A201, A202 and L201.

Also, as direct admit to Kelley and a member of Hudson Holland, Kelley will give you $1,000 per year scholarship. It is automatic the freshman year, then requires a 3.3 gpa for renewal after that as long as you are in Hudson Holland.

I must not have a GPA of 3.95 then since the requirements needed are 1340 SAT and 3.95 GPA according to Mrs. Baker. My high school uses a 100 point scale for GPA, mine being 98.11 and I thought using this model [How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Convert (Calculate) Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale – BigFuture) I would have a 4.0. Anyways, I will still go through the petition process that is due in March if I do decide that IUB will be my school next fall.

One last question bthomp1,
If I do get the HHSP award(5,000) and seeing that I do fulfill all the requirements for the IU Distinction award(9,000), would that be 14,000 a year in merit scholarship money awarded to me? (Of course assuming I maintain the requirement GPA for both)

Thank you again :)

Yes, it would be $14,000 minimum your freshman year, plus $1,000 freshman year if you are a direct admit to Kelley. Your sophomore, junior, and senior years it would be $14,000 per year, plus $1,000 each year if you are still in Kelley and have a 3.3 gpa, plus $2,000 per year extra (actually $1,000 per semester, which makes it $2,000 if you stay qualified) if you keep your gpa above 3.7 and are in Hudson Holland. So you could get as much as $17,000 annually the last three years.

It is unlikely that you would have got more than $1,000 per year from Hutton, as their scholarships tend to be that size and it is very competitive to get more than that. You should definitely petition to get in Spring semester for the other benefits.

I think Hutton takes people if they are in the top 5% of their class if their gpa is not 3.95. I did not realize the gpa requirement was that high.

Good luck!

Unfortunately my High School does not rank. However, I am very happy with the opportunity to lower the high out of state price.

You have been very helpful, thank you for your time. :)
