UPenn (the college) asks for one of its 2 Sat II to be a language for placement purposes. well, do i really need to take it for admissions? Or can I take it later one in June if I get accepted? by the way, I’m also taking the AP classes this year so i will be taking the AP language exam in May.

Merci!

It says on the app that they suggest taking a foreign language exam. That doesn't mean that you have to. They are trying to kill two birds with one stone, in that, if they should admit you, you could also qualify for a reduced requirment for language.

I took it in May after I wass accepted. It is definitely NOT necessary to be admitted.

ok thanks! that's great.

crashingwaves: did it help you in any way in terms of the classes that you took in Penn? I am thinking of taking extra SAT IIs after college apps are done. Since I am going to take all of these AP classes, might as well take their SATII counterparts.

I never took the language SAT II. Once you are admitted, there is a placement test you can take for free. My language even had the test offered online. That info is all for Spanish, not sure how the other language departments work.
Not really sure why you would want to take any more SAT II's than necessary. I haven't come across an instance at Penn where you would need that (except of course for language, but even that can be avoided.)

Is there a course in between the introductory to language (take Spanish as an example) and the class that people who have taken the AP test and recieved a high grade on it? I am good in spanish, I admit that is subjective, but I was not given the opportunity to take the AP Spanish Exam. Which class would I be put into?

Take the placement test and take the course recommended based on your result. The SAT II can also be used for placement in Spanish, though I don't think this is the case for every language. Foreign language SAT IIs are the only ones that count for placement at Penn, so it would not be worth it to take SAT IIs after acceptance other than the languages and for those there is also an online placement test. I did not know that at the time or I would not have taken the SAT 2 and would have just opted for the placement test.
