R&C Requirement

When do you need to complete this by (I recall people saying by end of 2nd year)? I still need to the complete the 2nd half of the requirement. Was thinking of doing it during next summer (summer 2013). I'm a 2nd year, so not sure if I'll start getting some registration blocks if I don't finish it before my junior year!

If you are in the College of Letters and Science, [Office of Undergraduate Advising: Reading & Composition](Reading & Composition | L&S Advising) says that:

Some majors (e.g. English and comparative literature) require completion of the R&C requirement before declaring the major.

If you are in the College of Engineering, http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/requirements/hss-humanities-current-list/HSS%20NEW%20REQ.pdf</a> says that:

Hmm I guess I’ll have to take it before summer then :(! Thanks

If I’m waitlisted #4 for German R&C, with the enrollment being at 15/17, is there a good chance I’ll get off? Or should I just switch to another (harder) R&C? Or just try again next semester?

You’ll most likely get it. You’re technically #2. There’s a rule that the top 10% of the waitlist will get in the class for sure (most of the time). You should be fine.

Usually the 10% rule applies only to big lectures. You have a fair chance of getting in but what i did was I enrolled in 2 R&C courses at the same time, one was easy the other was hard. In the end, I got off the waitlist for the easy one and dropped the harder R&C. While the first few weeks might be hard, at least you are ensured for an R&C class.

^That’s true, but it does apply to R&C to some extents. Out of the 30 people enrolled, I would estimate 1-3 would drop the class after receiving the reading list haha. Either way, if you’re worried, just waitlist/enroll for two R&Cs. I’m quite positive you’ll get into German, but in case things don’t go your way, you still have another back up R&C.
