<p>I am wondering about the ethnic background questions on college applications. For Auburn I checked "white" and said "American" in the "other" category. On every application I see the two main choices are "Europe" and "Middle East" for specific groups within "white". How far back is this asking for? My family has lived in America for several generations, but we're originally from Scotland. I know this is a relatively minor issue, but since I see it on so many applications, I think it is worth asking. Should I check "Europe" or check "other" and fill in "America"?</p>
