So I used to be close-minded. I’m Chinese and my parents are nationalistic, so naturally, I didn’t like Japanese people. But after I went to Japan for an exchange, I realized that I cannot blame the current Japanese people for the crimes Japan committted in the past and was suprised at how nice they were.
If I write about this, would colleges look at me in a negative way?
The fact that you still think it’s natural to dislike Japanese people because you’re Chinese makes me think that a different topic might be a better idea.
Too risky. Dont do it.
It needs to be about you not your parents. Not a good idea.
I don’t know. A powerful essay about overcoming prejudice, including realizing you had a bias in the first place, and then generalizing that to being open to examining bias in all areas as you study topics in college, could work. But make sure you come across sounding kind and accepting. Nellie Forbush’s arc in South Pacific is sympathetic, not off-putting!
