I am going to be a junior in high school, and right now I want to be a sports journalist. I love reading SI and I am a pretty good writer. I have read some previous posts and am just curious about a journalist's salary. From what I understand they don't make much money. I am on the shy, not very outgoing side, so would writing sports or broadcasting radio make sense? I look at it like just having a microphone but no eyes on you might be easier. What majors could you suggest to reach a sports writing goal?

Majors would def. be journalism.
Also, check out schools such as Emerson which actually have majors or programs in radio. Even USC (good for sports in general which is a plus) has some broadcast programs I believe.

If you go to any college that has a radio station you could conceivably get your own show covering collegiate and national sports. Joining the school newspaper and writing about sports would also be good for you, I think.

Being very shy, would that make radio or even newspaper/magazine reporting hard? And not for me?

Anyone????

Miami has a really good communications/journalism school plus, Like USC a good sports scene which is always a plus.
At UM's communication school ur required to double major and u could double major in Sports administration as well..
Seriously reccommend that as an option.

Another solid option is USC, Syracuse, Missouri, Indiana.

Anyone else? Would my personality make this goal in radio or journalism a bad match?

Anyone please?

Again its hard to picture how shy u are..

I would say yes to writing but no to radio.

Anyone with radio experience?

I have heard that Syracuse is great for this kind of thing. Here in Denver the top radio sports personality (and we are a big sports town, all major sports: MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL plus like MLS, ARENA, ILL) went to Syracuse journalism school...

u kno mike greenberg from mike and mike in the morning on espn radio. well he's also a sportscenter anchor and he went to merrill school of journalism at northwestern... a top notch journalism school. mizzous is pretty good too from wut i here

yeah, so basically any good journalism school...journalism school will give you the skills to form opinions ect. that are necessary in sports radio
