RAI for OOS Students

To be considered for admission as an out of state applicant, do you need a minimum of a 245 for your RAI score or are the standards higher for OOS applicants? Also, if you meet the minimum RAI, are you automatically admitted?(I'm applying as undecided btw) I have an RAI of around 265 I think (If I did it correctly). Does that mean I shouldn't bother with the individual review?

Ahh, I forgot to ask if AP/Honor classes count as “college-prep” courses, so do they? I also went to a college prep school during my freshman/sophomore year and I’m guessing the courses I took there are also considered college prep courses, right?

RAI requirements are as follows:
CLAS, in-state: 245
CLAS, OOS: 255
Engineering, all: 265 & ACT>= 25

If you meet these criteria, you’re admitted; no need for review.

Yes, your Honors/AP count as college prep. The definition is fairly loose. From the website,

"Which core courses count in the RAI?
Any college-prep course in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world language can be used in calculating a student’s RAI score. To be considered for admission, students must have taken (or plan to take) at least 15 college-prep courses (full-year) including the following:

4 years of English
3 years of mathematics, including Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry (Engineering requires a 4th year of mathematics)
3 years of social studies (Engineering requires only 2 years)
2 years of the same world language
3 years of science, including one year from two of these areas: biology, chemistry, and physics; and a third year from any science area.
All other courses in these areas (above and beyond those required for admission), can be used in calculating the RAI. High school counselors can help students and parents determine which courses qualify as “college-prep” or students can call the Office of Admissions."

Sounds great! Thanks a lot for your response. :)

OOS students need a minimum RAI of 255, so you do meet the requirement. And yes, you will be automatically admitted. The only time you would need to consider the individual review, according to the U of I website, is if your RAI is lower than 255 or if your high school does not rank.
