I took the SAT twice (May/June) and got less than stellar scores both times. I got a 1770 on my first try and a 1820 on my second try. I need at least a 2000, but I'm aiming for a 2100 so I can guarantee a 2000 (since I heard that the curve is harder in October).

I have the BB, Gruber's Complete SAT Guide 2011, and Outsmarting the SAT by Elizabeth King. None of them are written in. I have practically the whole summer until the October SAT.

My CR is my best section so I don't really need help on that. The only questions I got wrong were SC. I just need to work on vocab. I'm planning on using the lists in the Gruber Guide.

I'm definitely going to need help on my math and writing sections.

I scored a 6 and 8 on my essays. I thought my content was good, but I didn't fill up the two pages completely. I probably used up only 1.5 of the pages. I used AcademicHacker's guide on my second try. I plan on sticking to his method (just going to have to try filling up the two pages this time haha).

Can anyone suggest a study plan for me? I know what areas I need work on, I just don't know how to get started. I have 3 months until October

Score breakdown:

MAY
CR - 650
M - 570
W - 590 (Essay = 6)

JUNE
CR - 620 (fked up the SC)
M - 610
W - 590 (Essay = 8)

Thank you!

Just do a bunch of practice tests, time yourself, and make sure you know why you got what you got wrong. Redo the questions you messed up on, especially math, so you know how to do those kinds of problems for future reference. Crack down on the areas you need work on, so do more essays, more math sections, more vocab, more grammar. You could also just read the entire math and writing chapters for help. Honestly though, I just did like five practice tests after my first SAT and on my second one I went up 200 points. Hope this helps. Good luck!

** Oops I actually got a 550 on the writing section in May. I copied it wrong.

Thanks chwinky! I really appreciate your help. I already had been taking one practice test per week while i was studying for the May/June exams but I only checked over my answers for the CR. I’ll make sure to check over all my answers this time.

If you don’t mind me asking, how long did you have in between your two tests? Thanks!

I only took the SAT once, but I took the PSAT prior to taking the SAT. I scored a 210 on the PSAT, so approx 2100, and just by doing the entireee big Official SAT Guide by College Board over five weeks got me to a 2360. So my best advice is just practice. Practice everyday.

Wow that’s a good score. Thanks thisisweird!

What’s the average amount of time I should spend on the book per day? (Sorry I keep asking questions)

Retaking the test would only do little good to your scores. It is not like playing Lotto that each attempt gives you extra chance. Unless you have thoroughly prepared for the test and was getting much lower than expected score on the first attempt, otherwise, taking two consecutive test made little sense as you only have limited time to prepare for a retake. Before your next retake, make sure you do a lot of practice and go through the answers and explanations. Treat each attempt as your final attempt and go for it when you have reached a plateau in practice. Otherwise, it is a waste of money and time and it hurts your chance too.
