Anyone know how to do this? I met this guy last year who raised his bed as high as a bunk bed without having the bottom bunk. Then he just put a sofa underneath it and random stuff. Common ideas seem to be cinderblocks or rack raisers, but they don't seem to raise a bed high enough to be able to throw a sofa underneath. Any ideas or what you guys do?

Ummm I think the bed you’re talking about is called a loft bed. I have one of those and I bought it from Ikea. I don’t think you can just raise a normal bed that high…

Yeah that’s what I thought. Did you just replace the default bed frame with the loft frame? And if so, what’d you do with the default frame?

Default frame? Do you live in the dorms?
I live in an apartment so I had to buy my own furniture. I just bought a loft bed. Not sure what you mean by replacing the frame.

I’ve never lived in the dorms, but I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about…I think there is a way to remove the bottom bunk of a bunk bed in the dorms to make it into a loft bed because a friend of mine at a UCSB dorm did it to his bed and it looked like the same exact bed as all the other dorms bunks, just without the bottom bed. I’d see if maybe you can just unscrew the bed frame of the bottom bunk or something…

1) If you live in the dorms, you can request your bed to be lofted by filing some form. Just ask the housing. It does create a lot of space admittedly.
2) If you live outside, I’m not sure if you can really just replace the bed frames. I can’t imagine a lofted queen size bed although that would be super sweet. Then again, this part is just completely taken out of my ass.

I live in the dorms. Thanks for the information Batman17. Yeah, I heard about that from one person last year, and I’ve never seen it done or talked about anywhere on the websites or flyers. Until you said it, I thought it was no longer an existent option. I’ll try calling the housing to see how I can get it done. I heard it was $50, which is actually pretty cheap.
