Raising score from a 31

I took ACT first time and got 33 English 30 Reading 31 Math 31 Science (31.25 = 31 composite). I want to raise my score to at least a 33... Do any of you have any tips to do this. I used the McGraw and Real ACT study books, along with the 36 ACT Barron's book before... What is another route to increase my skills, particularly in reading, math, and science?

Were you rushed for time in science, did you not finish, or did you have to guess on the last few to at least get an answer down? If so, you may be able to make some gains there by managing your time more effectively and get a point or two to help improve your composite a bit. The same can actually be said about any of the sections regarding timing, but science is usually the most pressing for time.

You definitely should get the Red Book and take all three tests in there. Review your missed questions, work on your pacing/timing, and develop a strategy you’re comfortable with that gets you the most right answers efficiently. Sometimes it’s normal to have to use different strategies for different sections.

The main thing to figure out is WHY you’re missing the questions – either timing, strategy, or basic unfamiliarity with the types of questions. You have decent scores as it is, so you obviously have the ability to do really well and lack of knowledge isn’t the issue.

I finished science with about a minute left. I actually thought science was the hardest by far. I don’t know how I got a 31. I heard that you can only miss something like 3 questions to get a 31 on science. Is this true? I had a solid knowledge base for Math, but I’m thinking about going “all-out” and aiming to raise it a few points… I’m hoping I can maintain science and english and raise my reading and math.
