Firstly, when is the best time to stay at Rose overnight and to spend the day there?

Next, how is the music department at Rose? Since I am a self-taught pianist, are there places available on campus where I can practice? Also, do they have lessons on campus or anything for instruments (such as cello, since I am interested in learning it)?

man… Salve! you seem over-excited about going to college. :)

Any way, there are some piano’s in public which you can go play if they are not occupied.
As for the instrumental lessons, you can always drive to the ISU and pay lessons to learn cello there.

I’d suggest coming toward the beginning or middle of the quarter, since toward things get pretty hectic for students. Any time in December, January, or early February should be good. If there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see do (like meet with the director of the music programs), let the admissions people know when you set up your visit and they can make sure you have a chance to see whatever you want to.

I talked to the head of the music department when I was at Rose, and he said that there are a lot of opportunities for music there. There is an even a recently approved music minor that also allows for concentrations in various aspects related to music, such as the technical side or the performance side.

He did say, though, that if you want lessons, ISU is the place to go, just to echo what ccpsux said.

Thanks everyone! It really means a lot to be able to post questions on here and get extremely good advice from people who actually know. You guys are awesome!

ccpsux, haha, yes, I am really excited about it. My high school has been very annoying this year (I should say the people and such).

Nick123, thank you! I will probably go in January. I forgot too that you guys are on quarters, so your finals are different…

phanatic, I will probably look into that music minor! Thanks for the heads up.
