what do you think is the range
of GPA a student should have
for HYP?

4.3-5.0 ish

that's weighted gpa, right?

uw?

3.8-4.0 (10char)

Depends on way too many factors. Unlike public schools like berkeley where numbers usually prevail, the gpa of an ivy applicant can vary greatly.

For example, you can have a 3.5 uw if you have amazing ECs with some sort of a hook, recs, and essays and have a nice chance at your ivies.

However, if you are lacking in anything outside of academics, you would have a slim chance of getting into the ivies (and stanford, MIT, CIT, etc) even if you are the top of your graduating class.

Top 1-2% of class generally, whichever GPA that would be at your school.

1-2 % is definitely not required. Most of the people at my school who got into HYPSM and ivies were in the top 10% but i think only one of them are in the top 1% with just a couple in top 2% - 3% (out of a class of 600). On the other hand, our top 1% basically got waitlisted and rejected from all their privates because of their lack of ECs.

I said generally because I am talking about the average public school student. The average public school does not send (m)any kids to HYP each year.

oh yeah, that's probably right then

My school doesn't even rank. I guess I'll just ask my CG after the break if I'm in top 10%....
