Overall
Tier 1-RU/TCNJ
Tier 2-NJIT
Tier 3-Rowan/RU-C/RU-N/TESC
Tier 4-MSU/Ramapo/Stockton
Tier 5-Kean/NJCU/WP

I’d push Rowan up to Tier 2 especially with all the investments in the stem fields and facilities. It’s also quite good for communication.

Didn’t WP get some kind of serious business/industry endorsement, pushing it above the others in tier 5?

Feel free to edit it however you like, we will continue to revise it until we have a generalized defined list for just about every field of study.

WP gets inconsistent reviews, that’s why it’s Tier 5. Plus it’s graduation rate is lower at 50%

Tier 1- TCNJ/Rutgers

Tier 2 - Rowan

Tier 3 - Montclair/NJIT

Tier 4 - Stockton/Ramapo

Tier 5 - Rutgers Camden/Rutgers Newark/William Paterson

Tier 6 - Kean/NJCU/TESC (people from my high school aren’t even aware of TESC’s existence).

Why did you rate the RU-N & RU-C so low? They’re good schools, & are ranked pretty high everywhere else. They are definitely better than William Paterson.

Why did you rate NJIT so low? They’re really good for Engineering,Math,Science(Physics,Bio,Chem)Technology(CS,IS,& IT),& Architecture.

I understand for TESC. Nobody’s heard of TESC, even I did until we passed the sign for it. There’s not a lot of info about that school

I’m puzzled by your rating.

1 Rutgers
2 TCNJ + Rowan
3 Ramapo + Montclair + Stockton
4 Rutgers Newark/Rutgers Camden
5 William Paterson
6 Kean / NJCU / TESC (I don’t know anyone who’s applying to TESC…)

I didn’t even know what UMDNJ is, I just googled it.

Quite similar to @Lbad 's list!

Tier 1- TCNJ & Rutgers (NB)
Tier 2- Rowan (Engineering & teaching), NJIT,
Tier 3- Stockton, Rutgers (Camden & Newark), Rowan (everything else)
Tier 4- Ramapo, Montclair,Kean, Willy P
Tier 5- NJCU, Thomas Edison (Never heard of it) and UMDNJ (never heard of it)

Umdnj ni longer exists, it’s a part of Rutgers now, FYI

Ok, thanks!!!

@ASJackson923 @newjerseygirl98 tbf I’m not as familiar with Rutgers’ branch campuses. I didn’t even know they were separate schools; I assumed they were literally just farm schools of the NB campus.

Rutgers Newark might be average, but I’d have to contend with you on Rutgers Camden…

Okay, fair enough. Sorry

Also, NJIT gets really inconsistent reviews as well. It’s a very average school with a deplorable social life, so it can’t be any higher than Tier 3 in my book.

bottom line is TCNJ#1 its the most competitive school other than Prin in the entire state. Also has toughest admission standards. RU#2, then #3–Depending on major NJIT, Rowan, Montclair etc, But the fact is there is TCNJ then a fall off, then RU and then a big fall off (depending on major).

Spot on with Rowan. For Engineering & Education, Rowan deserves a Tier 2 ranking but as for everything else it didn’t do significantly well over other schools in the Tier 3 area, therefore it should get a Tier 3 ranking in my opinion

Let me try to discuss the Campus & Locations of these Schools

Kean- A mid sized school in a small urban/suburban city. Close to Woodbrige,Elizabeth,& Montclair. Diverse student body. Pretty average overall.

Montclair-A mid-large campus in a very nice large suburb. Wealthier area. Safe, has lots of stores & restaurants, & close to NYC. Diverse student body. One of the better college locations

NJCU- A small size campus in a mid sized urban city. Has the basics(academics buildings, rec center, student center, dorms) but nothing special. Not the safest town, but train rides to very close areas of NYC,Hoboken,Montclair, etc. Diverse student body. Commuter Campus.

NJIT- A mid size campus in a mid sized urban city. Has the basics(academics buildings, rec center, student center, dorms) but nothing special. Not a safe town by any means, but train rides to very close areas of NYC,Hoboken,Jersey City,Montclair, etc. D1 school, but not a big sports school. Diverse student body. Mostly male. Techy feel.

Ramapo- A mid-small campus in a rural/suburban area. Mountainous. In the sticks. Wealthy town. Close to wealthy towns. Moderately diverse student body. Has a “liberal arts feeling.” Rural feel & Secluded. Pretty good.

Rowan-A mid-large campus in a rural/suburban area. In the sticks. Not much in Glassboro, but has reasonable access to malls, restaurants, etc. Close to Philly. Moderately Diverse Student Body. Has a feeling inbetween a “high school & big college”. Pretty average overall.

Rutgers-A very large campus in a small city & large suburb. Big college feel with D1 sports, lots of parties, parks, frats, research, etc. Diverse student body. Equidistant from NYC & Philly. One of the better college locations.

RU-N-A mid size campus in a mid sized city. Has the basics(academics buildings, rec center, student center, dorms) but nothing special. Not a safe town by any means, but train rides to very close areas of NYC,Hoboken,Jersey City,Montclair, etc. Extremely diverse student body, no other school beats it in that department. Has some things to do, but not much. Commuter School & Satellite Campus

RU-C-A small campus in a small city. Has the basics(academics buildings, rec center, student center, dorms) but nothing special. Not a safe town by any means, but train rides to very close areas of Philly,Cherry Hill,Glassboro, etc. Diverse student body. Has little to do. Commuter School & Satellite Campus

Stockton- A mid-small sized school in a rural/suburban area. In the sticks. Has reasonable access to malls, restaurants, etc. Not far from Atlantic City, Ocean City, & Philly. Not a diverse student body. Rural feel. Average

TCNJ- A mid-small sized school in a small suburb outside of Trenton. In the middle of nowhere, just an average suburb. Close to Trenton, Princeton, & Newark. Campus is nice. Not diverse, students are predominantly white & upper/middle class. Has a “liberal arts feeling”. Average.

WP-A mid sized school in a suburb. Close to Paterson & Montclair. Has access to stors, malls, etc. But not much to do in the immediate area. Diverse student body. Pretty average overall.

fJust to clarify- TCNJ is only 15 min from PRINCETON and 20 min from New Hope Pa. so the poster is obviously not familiar and its NOT close to NEWARK at all( about 1 1/2 hours away by car). It is in fact
about 45 min from NYC and about same from PHIL.
