rank these schools from best to worst overall... in your opinion

i'm interested in what posters on here would think

American U
Boston U
Drexel U
Fordham U
Penn State U Park
Syracuse U
Temple U
U Miami
U Pittsburgh

I would say:
I will also take into consideration social life along with academics.
- Penn State
- Boston
- U Miami
- U Pitt
- Syracuse
- American University
- Temple and Drexel (although Drexel is in a way better neighbourhood. Temple is in the hear of ghetto land)

- Fordham (good school but little known so i put it last. Please take into account i am a stat and US News fanatic. But nevertheless i believe this is pretty accurate.)

-Pitt
-BU
-Penn State
-AU
-Cuse
-Fordham
-Temple and Drexel

(basing this on quality/success of students that ive known from there, how good the whole 'college-y' experience is, undergrad strength, strength of psych department [my academic/professional area] and personal bias of where i'd go)

Penn State
BU
Syracuse
U Miami
Pittsburgh
American
Fordham
Temple
Drexel

(i'm actually a big fan of Temple despite where i ranked it)

Fordham is def. above Pittsburgh, Temple, Drexel. I'd say

Penn State
BU
Syracuse
Fordham
American
U Miami
Temple
Drexel

These schools for the most part are really close for academics. For example if you wanted to go for Journalism you would go to Syracuse, but if you wanted to go for IR or Political Science you would go to American for the location/program. It all depends on your preferences, Miami or Boston? Big East or ACC? your major? northern or southern? etc. Probably only Temple and Drexel are not on par with the others academically. Personally, I would rank American first, because I am more interested in government and politics and don't want to be in the Northeast, but also wouldn't want to be in Florida...

"Temple and Drexel (although Drexel is in a way better neighbourhood. Temple is in the hear of ghetto land)"

-The Drexel neighborhood isn't all that great either. I'd also say that Temple is a better overall school.

the schools are pretty similar in academics (except for BU which generally would be considered a cut above the others). but there are big differences among them.

for example its hard to compare BU- a spread out city school, in a city with tons of other colleges, and with little school spirit/athletic pride to a school like Penn State, where the entire town revolves around the univeristy, not near a big metropolitan area, the students bleed lion pride, and the football games are THE place to be on weekends; compared to miami which has the huge advantage of being, well, in the city of miami, which is a total blast, and warm weather all year round.

Not quite, I don't think BU is any better than Miami, American, Penn State, or Syracuse academically.

BU is better imo than American and Syracuse. Penn State and Miami might be tied with BU. I definately agree that BU is not better than Penn State and or Miami but not nesesarilly worst either.

If we're talking overall academics/student life/career prospects:

U Pittsburgh
Syracuse U
Boston U
U Miami
Penn State U Park
American U
Fordham U
Temple U
Drexel U

UMiami
Penn State
Syracuse

I don't like the other schools.

Boston U
American U
Syracuse U
U Pittsburgh
Fordham U
Penn State U Park
Drexel U
Temple U
U Miami

Boston U
Penn State U Park
U Pittsburgh
U Miami
American U
Syracuse U
Fordham U
Drexel U
Temple U

As far as prestige, BU, Penn State, Miami, and Syracuse are equal. The others are fine, just not in the same league.

it depends on what you are looking for.....prestige or quality of education and also depends on your major.
Quality of Education:

Boston U/Fordham (Fordham will probably lead to the most opportunites if you are accounting/finance major - avg salary is over $52,000 and NYC has much to offer)
Penn State U Park
Syracuse U
Drexel U (if going for engineering should be on top of your list)
American U
Temple U
U Miami
U Pittsburgh

Boston U (i'll be a freshman in Sept. but I seriously think it is above the rest)
Penn State U Park

Fordham U

Syracuse U
U Pittsburgh
American
U Miami

Temple U

Drexel U

Temple is severely underrated. My family is very connected to the school. They have a top business school of which my father is a graduate of. They get a bad rap because A) where it is located (which is not as bad as people say) and B) because they choose to not be as selective as they could be.

I personally think Temple is as good as Miami and American, not far from Pitt and easily better than Drexel.

In order of my perception:

1) Boston University
2) University of Miami
3) Syracuse University (tie)
3) American University (tie)
5) Fordham University
6) Penn State University
7) University of Pittsburgh
8) Temple University
9) Drexel University

This ranking is crap because they all have specialties, (i.e. Syracuse's J School; American's IR, etc.) Also, it's biased against publics.

a lot of the lists so far in this thread i think have been way off, this is how usnews ranks them:

penn state 47

syracuse 52
umiami 54
boston 57
upitt 57

fordham 70

american 86

drexel 112

temple

this is how i would rank them in my own opinion (totally arbitrary)

umiami
boston u

upitt
penn state
syracuse

fordham
american

drexel
temple

how is this the case?

and even so, that doesn't change the fact that the students you are going to school with aren't as bright, which has a large effect on your education
