Ranking? In a small school?

For some reason my small private school does rankings. I am currently 1/20, how will colleges see this? Will it look good or just meh?

Won’t look bad; couldn’t look better.

It doesn’t say much. It’s nice but you are definitely a ‘big fish in a small pond.’ Your test scores will say a lot more in terms of comparing you to your peers.

On the other hand, attending such a small school could mean that you are coming from a background that is unusual and therefore gives you a boost for providing a unique perspective - like a small rural school, or an international school overseas, or a school with a very unique educational philosophy/value system. If that’s the case, then I would highlight that aspect of your background.

That’s why class rank is not considered very important by colleges
It’s hard to compare students this way and not very meaningful given the different ways class rank can be calculated.
But it is still nice to be #1 in any case! Congratulations :-)

Thanks, I didn’t know. We’re actually a small private school in the south with less than 200 kids pre-k through 12th
