I moved to Texas this year (my junior year) and my high school ranks the top 10% only. But to be ranked, you need to have attended 3 semesters. When i'm applying to college, only 2 semesters will be over and hence I won't get my rank. Will this look bad or hinder my chances of getting into college?

Thanks!

Texas public universities use rank in class instead of high school GPA. You probably want to ask your high school and the universities about your situation.

Yeah, but that’s for the automatic admission. If I apply without the automatic admission, would they consider my application just as good as any other?

In a way yes it kind of will, only if you are applying to public schools in Texas. UT works on the system of automatically accepting those top 8 or 9% I believe it is now. If you do not fall into that category than you are placed into the pool with all of the other kids who did not go to Texas high school or did not get that high a class rank. This means that you are now competing with kids who may be the very top of their class but just didn’t go to Texas high schools. Also for UT the 8-9 percent rule only applies for the college of arts and sciences and if you are going to apply for the more competitive schools of business or engineering they also have class rank rules but are much higher (around top 3%) and again you are placed in the more competitive pool with everyone else.

Ah, okay. I thought as much. Just wasn’t sure. It does make it a lot more competitive for me. Thanks a lot
