I was reading an old NYU thread and someone posted frequently asked questions regarding the NYU wait list from the NYU website, and one of the questions was, “Is there a ranking”? and the answer was NO. Unless I misunderstood, that sounded like a load of crap because there has to be some sort of pecking order for ANY wait list. Obviously not all candidates are created equally so that seemed like an odd response. I cannot imagine that NYU just goes eenie meenie miney mo and just picks names out of a hat.
Any way I imagine that once Lehigh has their list together, they rank who is the most desirable from that list. If I am wrong, please let me know. Thanks
They re-evaluate the wait-list when an opening becomes available. It’ll be like RD, except they’re choosing from the WL, and there’s an even smaller chance of being admitted. I was waitlisted as well, best of luck!
The first thing that they probably look for is which targetted levels they are short of in based on deposits made, and also on students who have notified them that they will not attend.
Stats and interest do matter, but it is much more complex than a simple rank order. The school has priorities in building their class, and they will usually focus on the students that will help them achieve the most important objectives that they are currently not achieving.
Do they need more engineers? business students? Women? Certain URM groups? First generation? Geographic targets?
For example, maybe they made offers to 3 students from North Dakota, and all three declined, but there is a kid on the waitlist from ND showing strong interest. If there are three ND students still on the waitlist, then they are probably going to rank them.
