UT Austin is a reach for any student who is not a resident of TX. They only accept 10% of their students from outside TX. Financial aid is also limited and very competitive. You have impressive credentials for any schools but it’s very tough for international students seeking aid. Cast a wide net and have safety schools.

The admit rate for internationals looks to be about 2%. The big state public schools that are also top schools might not be your best strategy as an applicant looking for money. Texas is packed full of high achieving students.

@momofsenior1 UT Austin was my safety school until I realized that international students have little chance of getting accepted. I can’t find safety schools that provide scholarship to internationals. What do I do? I’m concerned about the money I have to spend on the application and sending scores.

@Sybylla What do you think I should do? Like what’s the best strategy for someone with financial need and not bad scores and achievements?

Do not spend money applying. Even if you are accepted, you will not be able to afford to attend. You need to apply only to private schools that meet need for internationals. You have a shot at those with your profile. Go read posts on the internationals sub-forum or search the forum generally. Many have posted lists of which school meet full need for internationals. Find it and apply to those schools. Good luck!

@itsgettingreal17 Thank you very much))

Thanks everyone, you helped a lot

You should make sure you have an option lined up in your own country. There are NO safety schools for internationals needing aid. They are all reaches, but UT is pointless.

@Sybylla thank you very much))

agree with others! if you cannot afford, go to the best college in your country …be one of the toppers in your class and do research and ECs etc. and- then come to a top US Grad school with full Research or Teaching Assistantship. That is your best bet! Situation is so much better for Grad students. Good Luck!

@Doorbell You probably get in engineering, but unlikely to get any money.
I was an international student and had been in both computer science and engineering many years ago.
