Hi, I wrote this in well over the proposed time but considering I am a beginner writer please rate just so I can get a sense of where my writing level is at.
Constructive criticisms are much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Assignment: Do temporary or otherwise imperfect solutions to problems only create more serious problems?

Ever since the beginning of civilization man has set out to conquer obstacles in his way. Whether it is the lack of warmth or the need for food, man has always found solutions for problems that plague him. But sometimes the prospects are so dire that man only devises temporary or imperfect solutions to solve the problem, without realizing that the temporary solution only causes more serious problems. The novel the Kite Runner and the current nuclear crisis in Japan support and illustrate this notion.

In the Kite Runner, the main antagonist is not an external force, in fact it is a psychological opponent faced by Amir, the protagonist. During Amir's childhood he witnesses the rape of his best friend Hassan and is scarred for life because he did nothing to prevent it. For the next few years Amir tries to subdue his shame by taking out his anger on Hassan, who does nothing to retaliate. Amir also immigrates to America to forget all about his childhood. On the facade, these attempts for personal appeasement seemed to work but deep down Amir is in a quagmire of turmoil. As each day passes he is more and more troubled; by night he is tormented by nightmares and by day he is debauched by his cowardice. He is constantly depressed and does everything in seclusion. This part was the darkest phase of Amir's life and it explicitly shows how a temporary solution does nothing to resolve a problem and, in fact, creates more dilemmas in the long run.

Drawing an example from contemporary reality, it is common knowledge that Japan was hit by an earthquake tsunami which destroyed billions of dollars worth of infrastructure as well as critically damaging two nuclear reactors. But what were not known to many people were the desperate efforts the Japanese government took in order to attempt to salvage the nuclear reactors to solve the problem. The nuclear crisis in Japan was caused by the earthquake tsunami which damaged the cooling system of the nuclear reactors and without the cooling systems the reactors would be spewing out concentrated nuclear waste which would risk a nuclear explosion. But the Japanese government, who should be investing money to construct a new cooler, was instead initiating feeble attempts to try and stall the heating process by siphoning cold ocean water into the plant. This temporary solution would prove to be detrimental because the water was only able to delay the heating process but not able to dispatch the problem altogether. Now so much radiation is leaking out that all citizens within a 10 kilometer radius are evacuated. The wildlife there is threatened and the possibility of a nuclear explosion is even more devastating. The entire world is standing on its toes. This ongoing crisis is a prominent example that demonstrates how temporary solutions only create greater problems.

The Kite Runner and the Japan nuclear crisis demonstrate two different attempts at temporary solutions to problems. One presents the psychological aspect and one shows the physical aspect but both exemplify the theme that a flawed or temporary solution only creates more serious problems.
