Rate My Schedule :)

So just got my schedule done. I anticipate receiving AP credit for APUSH and AP Stats, so here it goes. Please do tell me how difficult my schedule is, and your thoughts on it. Also I was sort of on the fence of taking vs. K201, so can anyone tell em advantages, and ways to study ahead? With said, here it is:

K204
T134
T175
E201
M118
P101

Not taking any foreign language, as I anticipate filling it by studying abroad junior year in Kelley.

Absolutely take K204 over K201. It’s significantly easier to get a good grade in K204 because there are so many free points that are not in K201. In my K204 class, someone literally got an 45% on the first exam (this is not normal at all and almost everyone else did well) and ended up with a B- in the class. There are only 2 exams. I know several people who were definitely better with Excel and Access that struggled to get a B- in K201.

The rest of your schedule looks decent. I’m guessing P101 is psych, which is a good class for natural science credit. Taking psych online is extremely easy as well, so don’t be afraid to do that as long as you would stay on top of the work. It’s also fine to just take it as a normal class.

Finite should be easy for you after AP stats. We learned most of the stuff in my AP stats class. Just try to avoid Self for E201. This schedule looks good and should be manageable as long as you stay focused.

Is the schedule time consuming, as in won’t have time to hang out with people? I have Olson for E201, so what have you heard about him?

You will definitely have plenty of time to spend with friends. I took a schedule that was more time consuming first semester and could still play basketball or hang out in my friends’ rooms pretty much whenever they wanted to do something. “Stay focused” just means turn in all of your assignments and study adequately for major exams. Exams will likely take a couple/few hours to study for, but you only have 8 total exams between K204 (2), E201 (2), and M118 (4). Psych has probably 2-4, and the others have none, but compass has 4 projects that range from maybe 1-3 hours each. You will have to spend more time studying than in high school, but you will also spend way less time in class. Olsen is fine for E201.

How to study ahead for K204? And how difficult is E201? Can you give me some tips to so really well in it?

Also should I switch out Micro with ENG-W131 and take Micro second semester with Accounting and Business Presentations Honors and Brief Survey of Calc?

K204 is all about Microsoft Excel and Access, so I guess the best way would be to watch some videos online about how to use Excel and Access, or take a class on them or something like that. I don’t think it’s necessary to study in advance though unless you struggle with computers. You could switch Micro with W131 if you want. It really doesn’t matter what order you take the classes in as long as you get them done. I guess it might be a good idea to avoid taking W131 and C106 at the same time since they both require a decent amount of work. It’s up to you though

I posted a similar question on IU’s Subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianaUniversity/comments/4p89bq/rate_my_schedule/). And so far the responses I have gotten are frightening as people are telling me I will be up to my nose in work. You seem to say it is moderately difficult, so I was wondering if I could gauge how intelligent you are? If you don’t mind me asking how did you do on the ACT? I got a 30, so I got into Kelley, and petitioned into Hutton’s, so Idk I’m scared now. And also instead of W-131 what classes other than it that fulfill the credit (easy classes) would you recommend?

I got a 34 ACT. Finite gets a bad reputation, but it really is not that hard. You will have an advantage over almost everyone in the class by taking stats. I had at least seen something similar to every problem type until the very end of the class from AP stats. Psych, T175, and T134 will be very easy.

K204 can be a challenging class at times, but is definitely manageable as long as you go to class. It is also definitely attainable to get an A. There are consistently classes with over 80% A- or better.

I can’t really comment a ton on W131 or E201 because I had AP credit for both of these classes, but one of my friends who also got a 30 ACT had very little trouble with E201. That same person currently has a 4.0 GPA. The only alternatives to W131 are W170 and CMLT-C 110. I had a friend who took W170 and did not enjoy it, but otherwise I don’t know much about these classes.

Basically, none of the classes you are going to take for Kelley are “easy” in a high school sense, but it is very possible to get an A in any of them as long as you do the work and study appropriately. A big reason why the intro classes often have low GPAs is that they have a bunch of unmotivated students in them. You don’t seem like an unmotivated student given that you have a 30 ACT and are very concerned about building the best schedule possible to set yourself up for academic success. I was in the same position a year ago and I was concerned about the difficulty of college, but it really is manageable. I would say that I worked moderately hard, but I definitely could have put more time into my classes and ended up with a 3.97 GPA (I suck at speaking and missed an A in C106 by 1 point). I’m not trying to brag, just saying that it’s definitely possible to do very well. I can’t think of anyone that I know that was constantly overwhelmed by work. You were accepted into Kelley for a reason and you can definitely do well.
