I will be a Sophomore. Please Rate and Review my Schedule:

I will be taking:
-Honors Biology
-Honors Spanish 3
-Honors Chinese 2
-Latin 1
-Pre-AP English
-American Government
-Sociology
-Algebra 2
-AND one online college course in the spring

I will be in:
-JV Volleyball
-JV Tennis

-Yearbook Club (CO-CAPTAIN!)
-Community Service Club
-Cross Age Connections (a club answering questions of 8th graders to make their high school transition easier)

I will be a:
-ESL Tutor
-Volunteer 50 Hours at a local Hospital in the winter

I will also be taking about 5 more online college courses during the summer and attending Volleyball and Yearbook Workshops to improve my skills and technique!

I get nearly all As (sometimes one or two B+s)
My unweighted GPA is about 3.8 but with many more Honors and AP I can definietly raise that in the next three year!!

Because I'm a Sophomore, next year, my class will be the first class taking the NEW SATs!! Which are supposed to be easier, also colleges won't be able to compare the scores as easily, so I doubt they will count as much..

I would love to be an ESL teacher (abroad, perhaps), because languages and teaching are a huge passion of mine and I don't think I could pick just one language!

Am I doing enough? What should I add or drop?

Thanks!!!

Hi! Fellow sophomore here!

Just curious, which science class did you take in freshman year? At my school, when you take Bio Honors as a sophomore, that means you took Earth Science Honors as a freshman.

Anyways, I’ll rate your schedule as a 9. The three different languages might be difficult, but if you’re dedicated, all the power to you. Languages aside, you’re taking pretty standard classes. If Algebra 2, Sociology and American Government have honors level classes you could take, I’d say your rating would be a bit lower, maybe an 8.

I really like your EC’s. You already have a leadership position in a club that actually does something, so that’s good. Most of your EC’s seem to be about helping people, which I think makes you appear kind. There aren’t many interest-oriented clubs, but with Co-Captain of Yearbook, you look driven. In the next years, try to attain leadership positions in your other clubs and stick with them.

Interesting theory about how you think the SAT’s won’t count as much… I’m really nervous about them, especially since I haven’t taken the PSAT or PLAN (I will be required to take them this upcoming year because our school forces sophomores to).

Anyways, if there’s anything to add, I would try to get into the honors versions of Algebra 2, American Gov and Sociology, if they’re offered.

Good luck.

Wow! That was very helpful and well done! The American Government and Sociology are both one semester and are only offered in standard form.

I could be in Honors Algebra 2 but I struggled in Algebra 1 although I did really well in Geometry! So I am playing it safely (if I find it’s really easy for me in the first month AND that there is an Honors Algebra 2 class the same period I will probably switch to that class)

I did take Honors Earth Science as a freshman. So I DID have the option to take AP Bio, but that class at my school gives so much work that kids who take it end up having to drop half of their ECs and social life just to keep up or drop the class themselves. I am planning to take AP Chemistry as a Junior though.

I’m taking the PSAT and PLAN too, but I’m also super nervous and am wondering if the PSAT will be for our new test or for the old one…?

Thanks again!

The PSAT for our Junior year will be based on the new SAT. This year’s PSAT stays the same.

I still think there’s two flaws in your theory: that a lot of people (at least, a lot of people from my school) take the SAT before March (when they’re changing it) and the ACT. For example, I’m taking the ACT this year (mainly to qualify for summer programs, but if I get a high score, then I might not take the SAT at all), and that score will still factor into college admissions.

@topaz1116‌ I will wait for the new one and take the PLAN to practice for the ACT, If I do well I will also just use my ACT + writing on my college application
