RD 2013 Anxiety Thread

omg, three Austinites in a row! yay! I didn't notice the Austin mention in your poster sidebar.
(what if we go to the same high school? the mind boggles. haha)

@pekingnese09 - Oh, god, I know! I got into Mount Holyoke too, but they gave me really bad financial aid. :( I'm hoping Smith's is better!
@23p - HAH! That would be....terrifying, to say the least. =P

Wow, I didn't know so many west coast bay area girls applied to barnard. When I bring it up at my school, barely anybody knows about it. But I'm glad I'm not the only one here =)
Since its the "anxiety thread" I'll say that I'm a little worried because my gpa is low but I do involve myself in many leadership roles at school and have a well rounded personality.. so hopefully it works out. I'm SUPER anxious.

@foreverpetals - Ditto! I'm a full IB Diploma student with a gajillion extracurrics, and, unfortunately, that's dragged my GPA down quite a bit. I'm hoping my essays + reccs will make up for it. :(

Welcome to the super-anxious-on-the-verge-of-collapsing thread, LOL.

Everyone here is surprisingly friendly, especially compared to some of the other threads in other schools... Best of luck!

Same here, foreverpetals! Everyone's heard of Columbia but when it comes to Barnard no one seems to know what I'm talking about, while those who do know it seem to love it so much. And if there's one thing I've heard more than anything else about Barnard throughout this process it's that they truly look at the individual, not just grades, so you should have an excellent shot. :)

Lets hope so! I'd be ecstatic if I got in. This school seems perfect for me.. people always wonder why I do so many activities/volunteer for so much. And it's definitely hard for me to explain- I just know I love it. But it seems like many of you are the same way!
BTW, do any of you know if decisions are mailed on the last week of March or do they reach us by the last week of March?

OOH and out of curiosity simply lily, is lily your first name? (I sound like a stalker and you really don't have to say if you don't want to) But it would be cool if yours was because my name is lily too =)

haha, i'm pretty sure no one else from my school applied. Everyone's either UT or TAMU.
I say Barnard, they go..."huh".

I got waitlisted from R.P.I (Rensselaer Polytechnic institute), which is pretty disappointing..

^^I would bake you cookies if I knew you in person :)
(not that I know how to bake, I'd probably bring you Haagen Daaz ice-cream instead)

but....cross fingers for Barnard :D We'd want you here better anyway :p

aww thanks..

oh my god, I didn't mark my ethnicity on my app. Do you think it matters? That chart says Barnard accepts 0% of unknown. Did I blow everything just by not marking it? On my god, I'm freaking out right now. I didn't know that not marking it could disqualify me!!!

Whoa...there's so much to reply to! I'm glad this thread is so active :)

23p, I'm glad that you're brought in by all the great women with awesome personalities in this thread. It definitely is representative of how phenomenal Barnard is. Best of luck for next year!

squaregirl, CONGRATULATIONS! I know you had a hard beginning of your admissions season, but the end seems to be going strong. I'm crossing my fingers for Barnard to come through for you!

foreverpetals, I have a low GPA, too (3.38uw/3.6w), but, like you, I figure I have other things going for me. Let's just hope that Barnard is able to see it!

cantochickk, I'm sorry. You're still an awesome person -- don't let one school's perception of you get you down, especially since...

I have pictures of cookies and ice cream!

+

Appreciate the yum :p

inasummertown, I don't think that is really that important. It makes no sense to me why Barnard would write off an applicant simply because they didn't mark their ethnicity. If it was an issue, I'm sure they would have contacted you.

I hope so. I had my mom call my uncle who's a lawyer to check up on if that could even happen and he said no. Whew. I guess it doesn't take much to freak me out these days. Oh my, that was intense.

awww etched, ur so cute!! hahaha u just made me much happier

@etched - Aw, thanks! I hope so too. :)

insummertown, that's probably the case. Perhaps there was some error with that data set, though. I was looking at the stats from the class of 2012 (Barnard College Admissions) and it says that 7.5% of matriculants did not indicate their ethnicity.

cantochickk, I'm glad I was able to make you feel better. Yay! Maybe the Anxiety Crew should have an official food? (Not bananas, of course ;)).

squaregirl, no problem. Here's to hoping! And, again, good job on your present success with Smith and Mt. Holyoke -- they're both excellent schools.

&& random: this is my 100th post! w00t!

Thanks, etched. Still, 7.5% isn't a lot! I'm sure there are plenty of other factors and that most people did indicate race. Congrats on #100!!

We should have an Anxiety Crew official food! And if we all get accepted we should make T-Shirts and wear them to our 1st meet up!

Please, please, please can we all be accepted?

Yeah, I didn't mark ethnicity either. I really wanted to put Hispanic, but I chickened out thinking that they'd take one look at my red hair and be like "uh huh...rejected." Y no hablo espanol. So I just left it blank.
