Question, is anyone else out there from Alabama? (Do I maybe have a geographic edge?)

it's still okay to hope, right? ;-)

pepperimps - THANKS FOR THAT WONDERFUL LINK!!! OH MY GOODNESS SOO AFFORDABLE AND BEAUTIFUL!! YAYYYY :)

omg..nvm...very expensive lol

You're welcome! A bunch of them are expensive but I managed to find some beautiful ones that weren't (especially considering the prices on some other sites :O).

i went on the link myself too! GORGEOUS short dresses/exactly my style! I def think I'm buying. :)

Yay, spreading the love. :)

squaregirl - About Kosher(ism?), there's also the eight-hour between meat and milk rule. Very important rule, that one. I myself don't eat Kosher but I assume it's not hard to find in a city like New York...

ermina62 - Certified pilot and unicyclist, huh? Ouch. firefly16842's (yay Firefly!) explanation of "reach school" is ringing in my ears now... at least we have a 100% chance over 3 billion people in the world...

Ahaha, sorry? If it's any consolation, I'm right there with you...

@simply lily - I know; back when we were Orthodox, the 8 hours was...unfun, to say the least. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad those days were over. =P

I already got my prom dress - it's a Chloe dress that I got in eBay for next to nothing. It's so floaty, I love it! Now I just need a date. :(

Argh, 65 valedictorians?!?!??! I'm top 23% due to some unfortunate incidents during my sophomore and freshman years, so the 88% in the top 10% isn't exactly heartwarming. :

How like the movies is the whole prom thing, anyway?

simply lily - in my experience, not very much. But that probably has something to do with me hating rap - it would be totally better with 80s music, lol. The chocolate fountain was the best, though. ;)

I haven't been to a prom yet, but based upon my experiences with other schools dances, nothing. The other day, I was watching Never Been Kissed and their prom was like...a costume party? When I used to watch that movie when I was younger, it never phased me, but then I turned to my mom and was like, "When does that ever happen...ever?" I hate rap, too, which definitely does dampen one's experience.

So I've been lurking in this thread for the past couple days and I finally decided that I wanted to drop in and say hey.

I somehow managed to get myself sick and have to stay home all week, the very week before I'm expecting all the rest of my college decisions to come, so I've had plenty of time to stew and ask "what if" and all that wonderful, wonderful stuff. But reading this thread has been sooooo comforting!

I fell in love with Barnard after my mom dragged me to visit (okay, well, not dragged, I never have to be DRAGGED to New York City), but I went in knowing hardly anything about it, and left absolutely in love with the campus, the neighborhood, and the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I feel it's a bit of a pipe dream for me. To put it simply, I really did not work to my full potential in high school.

And I'm especially regretting that now, because you all seem like such incredibly wonderful and brilliant girls, and I feel like I have so much in common with all of you already (for instance, I saw some discussion of [title of show] waaaaay back at the beginning... I LOVE [TITLE OF SHOW]!!! Clearly, we would all be best friends).

Anyways, here's to hoping for those nice, thick envelopes this week! It would be an honor to go to school with every single one of you!

tobeinspired- When I saw the words "way back" in relation to [tos], I just automatically assumed that it said "A Way Back To Then." Just so you know :)

Welcome, tobeinspired! I was home two days last week and tried to read but kept getting distracted by little noises that could have been the mailman/refreshing my inbox all day. :P And I kind of had to be dragged but not dragged too. I was like: no girls schools! But I was an idiot.

I haven't been to prom yet, but I'm told that ours is just a really fancy/expensive homecoming. Which could be fun...or not. But I feel like I have to go to find out!

I don't really like most rap (except a few cases in which the lyrics are brilliant) but I don't like dancing to anything with a good beat!

Prom also involves getting a date...ugh, I guess I better get on that! Haha.

I meant to say...I DO like dancing!!!

Junior prom was actually the first dance I went to in hs, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. And I'm pretty sure the only difference between junior and senior is that junior's in Oakland and senior is in SF. I guess that's supposed to be classier or something. :P

I like most French rap & The Roots (saw them in D.C. a few weeks ago - they had a tuba! automatic awesomeness!) but that's not the type of rap they play, so...:/

I went last year....and think I'll probably be skipping out on that this year, unless something radical happens (a.k.a. I find someone to go with). Our school usually gets one of our high school garage bands to play, so no rap, but tickets were like $60 last year.
