RD Applicants: Interview Advice

AdmissionsAddict, thanks a lot for a stream of very helpful posts concerning the Yale interview process. Still, my son, an RD applicant from the west coast, can’t help feeling a bit depressed as he was interviewed quickly for Harvard and Princeton, but has heard nothing from Yale. Some friends from his school may have already been interviewed, and Feb. 15 will be upon us soon.

hi, I am scheduled for an interview for this Thursday (2/24). I just received an email from an alum yesterday. I thought that it was too late for interviews…?

Officially, yes. But apparently not for you. That’s not a bad sign. Go for it. Best of luck to you.

yeah i was just told to have an interview this saturday (2/26) - is it not a bit late? just over a month before decisions come out?

It’s quite late now (my on-campus interview is tomorrow afternoon, i’m on the east coast only for 2 weeks and had my finals a week ago, so i didn’t have much time to prepare…)
The mail I got said that you should not bring a resume, but here I read many posts that said that its good to bring one…
Should I at least ask my interviewer if he wants me to give him some short resume without GPA, scores and so on?!
hope this reaches someone until tomorrow :P

Admissions office interviewers don’t want resume. Some alumni volunteers like 'em. I never use 'em

Hi!
Does anyone know the interviewer named Sean Takats? I’m having an interview with him tmr, and I wanna know if he’s a nice person, and what kind of questions he usually asks :D

Hey!
Don’t bother to read my previous post. I had the interview today. I’d say it was fine, but you know, you can’t say anything for sure.
I wanna write my interviewer a thank-you email. What’s the best way to write it?

Has anyone else not gotten an interview yet?

Interview reports are due ~ Feb 15. It’s likely many students still haven’t been interviewed, little penguin. And of course, some of these won’t be interviewed at all. That’s how it goes.

My D, Class of 2009 and currently attending graduate school, just completed her first-ever round of Yale interviews. I believe she did 11. She loved it!

T26E4: My intereviewer actually called me today and scheduled an interview on the 22nd. Are such late interviews factored into the decision? Also, what should I expect? Some of my interviews have asked more questions concerning me as an applicant, while others have focused on questions I have about the school. (or does this depend on the interviewer?)

The “soft” deadline is the 15th. But go for it! I’m sure the write up will be read. The questions vary as much as the interviewer or just the flow of the conversation. We don’t work off templates or lists of topics/questions. Enjoy. And good luck.

My interview was scheduled to be today, but my interviewer didn’t call me at the agreed time. I called her an hour after to check and left a voicemail. Should I continue to call? Also, is it strange to conduct an interview when decisions come out in 24 days, even though the Feb. 15th is a “soft” deadline.

26 days, you mean.
Every day counts.

haha yes 26 days. I don’t know why I typed 24…

Isn’t it 28 days? Don’t decision come out April 1st?

No, that was last year.
This year’s “Ivy Day” is March 29, from what I’ve read.
25 days!

hopeforyale–Either your interviewer is a complete slacker who is only now getting around to your interview or your application is on the bubble and admissions requested a last minute interview. This definitely happens.

Hi! Seeing as we are entering another admissions season… Mind if I kick this thread into motion again?

First question: If I am doing an interview at a coffee shop, and my interviewer offers to by me a drink, would it be impolite to decline? I feel bad making someone else pay for me, and I would probably just buy the drink myself.
