<p>Hi all. I know W&L is a reach, but I loved the campus and the whole feel of the place.</p>

<p>670 Math
660 Verbal
650 Writing (Retaking this month)
680 U.S. History
610 Math 1 (Retaking this month)</p>

<p>3.5 GPA at a decent high school
I've taken nearly every honors course offered at my school and I've taken four classes at the local university, getting As in all four</p>

<p>EC's:
- Band President (220 people, the band I placed into plays AA music, which is basically college level)
- Was the Junior Rep for band
- Model UN President and founding member
- Eagle Scout and SPL
- Planned and led a weeklong scouting trip in the Smoky Mountains
- Boys State (elected Senator)
- Traveled to Salzburg, Austria for three weeks and took a German course at the University of Salzburg
- Youth Group member
- Volunteered for a weeklong service project with Youth Group a couple years back
- German Club member
- Student Activities Board member
- Volunteered and then worked at a Cub Scout day camp for about 45 hours a week
- Meals on Wheels volunteer the past four winters
- Vacation Bible School volunteer for the past three summers</p>

<p>I'd like to say I wrote a pretty darn good essay, and that I have some pretty good letters of recommendation. I visited the campus, but ran out of time to do an interview.</p>

<p>Does anybody know how ROTC works at W&L? I know it's through VMI, but does anybdoy know somebody who is or who did ROTC at W&L?</p>

<p>Oh, and I'm in the top quarter of my class and I'm from Ohio.</p>

<p>How about comparing these statistics to averages and such?</p>

<p>As for ROTC, you take classes at VMI (which is right next to W&L) and complete your training there. Once you get to an advanced level, if you decide to continue, you go off to training in Fort something, in Maryland if I remember correctly. Also, once you get to that point, you'll have an obligation to accept an assignment (as a second lieutenant, I think) in the Army, National Guard or Army Reserve. </p>

<p>Well now that I know the averages of everything I ever wanted to know, are there any opinions out there of how much my ECs will help me possibly get accepted?</p>

<p>You have some great EC's, try to concentrate (in your app) on one specific area you're great at (the so-called hook) that will really make you stand out, and mention the others to show you're well rounded. </p>

<p>That way, it would be easier for admissions officers to remember you. Ahh, he's the German speaking band player, or the volunteering Model UN president.</p>
