RD decisions as early as Feb 15?!

Again, I doubt anyone actually knows. I'll send an e-mail later tonight and hopefully I'll have a response by tomorrow.

That would be crazy. I would assume the deferrals would not be the first ones since the point of it was so they could compare them to the rest of the applicants. I hope I might be able to see in February since I applied November 1st.

People who applied earlier will find out earlier and defereals must wait till the last round

Are you sure deferred are last to find out? Because they just put our applications with the rest of the regular pool.. anyone have official info on this?

Well, it only makes sense. I doubt they just randomly mix it with other applications. They likely have a separate pile so they can check after they have seen the rest of the applications.

Yah I think that makes sense.

ILR told me that we will most definatley not be sent out in the first round and will have to wait. Basically we are screwed because I feel like a lot of us defered (like Chandler) are just as competitive if not more than many in the RD round, and after the spots go out to the first wave there isnt much room.

Here is my D's (an ILR Junior) experience.
--She got her acceptance in February.
--She sent in her RD application by the deadline--not much sooner.
--Her friend, who sent in her RD application sooner than she, did not hear from ILR until late March-early April and was accepted.

My opinion, the students who hear early (Feb.) are the ones wanted by Cornell the most. It is not based on when you sent in your RD application.

Unfortunately, ED's will not be the ones accepted in Feb., IMO, otherwise , they would have been accepted ED.

Yeah, miktau, I'm worried about the same thing, though HumEc isn't rolling.
I'm aiming to send my letter around the end of this week/next weekend, I'd like to work on it gradually so it's quality.
I'm still sort of disillusioned by the whole deferral thing, I'm really doubting my chances at other good schools, and though Cornell is still my first choice, I truly don't think I'll be able to get in due to the nature of RD...

I have heard, though, that contract colleges are prone to giving GT's to deferred applicants, so maybe there is some hope miktau. If they run out of room but still think we look decently competitive, they may give us a GT.

If you write a good letter of interest, they MIGHT accept us over an RD applicant with similar qualifications since we did apply ED and followed up with a letter saying Cornell is still our top choice.
Who knows?
I wish HumEc was rolling though!

i don't think there's a correlation between when you apply and when you find out.

i applied on dec 31st (the deadline was jan 1st last year), and i found out in late february.

Was there something special about your application? Would you have considered yourself an extremely qualified candidate?

Guys...

TEN DAYS until you might find out...

Don't get too excited and try not to think about it!!
My kid is now a Cornell alum, so I've been on these boards for a couple of years now.

Let me tell you, very (and I will repeat VERY) few kids get a decision during the "rolling" period. Each year it seems that less kids find out during this period. Only acceptances go out. The vast majority of you will get your decision (and hopefully an acceptance) on April 1.

If I remember correctly from last year, not too many in-state kids got an early acceptance from ILR. It seemed like they were trying to make contact with OOS ILR kids first. And it was very few kids who got the early nod.

You'll know when it is beginning to happen- kids do start posting on these boards. In the past. it has been closer to February 20th or thereabouts and lasts for maybe 3 to 4 weeks. It comes in batches and each school seems to send them out at different times.
Good luck to all!
