were your fin aid packages included in the envelope you received?

I live on the other side of the East coast too. Lots of anticipation.
Congrats, people!

abk109 and mudbloody: I’m curious. What on earth is the “other/opposite side of the East coast?”

Haha ^
Florida, for me…I guess I should have just said that in the first place.
It’s not the opposite side of the country but the opposite side of the East Coast. It makes sense to me.

Yes 10char

that is exactly what it means, you got in for the Spring. COngrats

Heard today!!! GOT A FULL RIDE!!!

My son emailed his admissions counselor Thursday to let her know his new email address. She replied right away thanking him and telling him to watch the mail as “decision letters are being sent out early next week.” I wonder if they do it by last name or something? We live in New England and I see some of you do as well and received acceptances today. Hope it’s not that just the rejections are mailed next week (I would think she wouldn’t have included that if that were the case…)

Hi, Spiffmonkey1, Would you please have a look on the letter that when was the letter being mailed? I am really nervous now.
BTW, I am an international student live in LOS ANGELES.
Thank you!

I don’t think so.
My sister and cousin already got theirs (night of Friday/Saturday) but I haven’t.
Both rejected.

Guess we have to wait till Monday. At least I see it isn’t that rejections come later. It is just odd that she told him on Wednesday (late afternoon, even) to watch the mail as decision letters were going out early next week.

congratulations Spiffmonkey so incredible to get a full ride.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself so rising sophormores and juniors can plan their stats accordingly?

March 18th, two days ago

Well I believe that Brandeis really looks for students who have “overcome” adversity and support diversity because I didn’t get many awards. My essay was about me taking 2 APs classes junior year and the rest honors while I worked 4 days a week(to support my family).

Clubs/Activities-
Track (Last year and this year), I am the fastest sprinter on the team(but missed qualifying for states so I assume Brandeis doesn’t want me for track
Volunteer community service group which supports DIVERSITY and the spread of awareness regarding drugs, alcohol, etc

Awards-
Math Award
Academic achievement award

I had a like 2.7 freshman year, but started to get almost all A’s in sophomore and junior year, which boosted my gpa to a 3.81. So for sophomores and juniors, take as many challenging classes as you can and work your hardest.

Sat- 1800 (Did not send)
Act- 28 (Writing-24, Math-30, Reading-28, Science-30)
Currently taking 4 APs, not getting all A’s, only like a couple

The scholarship I got is called the Alumni and Friends Scholarship and is based on need-based and academic achievement. This scholarship covered my dorm expenses also.
My sister goes to Brandeis, which may have helped me get accepted but I got more financial aid than her.

Thanks!

Wow, spiffmonkey1. Seems like Brandeis does review you holistically.
Congratulations
Well, sadly I didn’t get in. I’m beginning to wonder if there was something seriously flawed with my essay.

Congratulations Spifmonkey, Best Wishes to you, you’ve worked really hard, thanks for sharing.

My daughter got her acceptance letter Saturday for midyear admission. She really doesn’t want to start in January, since she already decided she didn’t want to do a gap year, has no burning personal/sports/vocational/volunteer interest to pursue, isn’t one to want to do the Lone Ranger thing, and really wants to start when her friends do (she wanted to room with a hs friend who was admitted ED, but I guess that won’t be possible now.) She might want to do a semester abroad, but not before she’s discovered her specific interests and objectives for doing that. We also were completely unaware of January admissions.

On the other hand, it seems kids with higher stats got rejected or waitlisted. Perhaps it’s better she was definitely admitted? Maybe she got stuck with January because the admissions officer(s) figured Brandeis might well be the “best” or highest-ranked college she would be admitted to, and would be likely to accept Jan. admission? Also she was not offered any merit aid, as opposed to $9K in merit scholarships from an EA school, so I do wonder if she was a lower-priority admit.

I’ve looked at previous threads on January admits, and I have to concur I’m baffled why January admission is not a self-selected option. If it is such a great opportunity, surely they could find 100 candidates to fill the Jan. cohort? I worry she is/will be some sort of second class citizen and will not be fully integrated with her class. Also I’ve seen at least one poster assert that course selection(s) spring semester are not as numerous as fall semester. I suppose my daughter can take classes at another college for credit in the fall (she already has a summer job) so she can graduate on schedule, but it does seem to me that somehow she is being offered 3.5 years at Brandeis instead of the full 4 years, for which we will be paying full freight, in order to help Brandeis increase its tuition income and balance its student population.

Any thoughts or suggestions from others in the same situation?

Got in! Yay!

I got in! I also got into the Lerman-Neubaur fellowship program… I have no idea what this is lol.

I got in and was accepted to Lerman-Neubauer Fellowship Program too!!
