***RD Haverford 2020***

Will haverford ever update portals as well?

I just got rejected from Swarthmore last night and have yet to receive anything from Haverford. Guess my odds aren’t looking too great

Just got the big envelope in Philly. I am beyond happy; congrats to everyone who got in! The personal note really is a nice touch.

@coolchic8000 I was also rejected by Swarthmore last night. Don’t loose hope!

Define “big envelope” please… Ours is thick, but regular and waiting for son to get home. LOL

My envelope is the size of a standard textbook @MomofMany02

I have been admitted, and yes the handwritten note is heartwarming. My FA is out of this world, beyond thrilled.

And for those who were not accepted, trust me I feel your pain. We will all get our turn in happiness and of sorrow.

Big envelope from Haverford arrived for son in today’s mail(North Carolina). We are all thrilled for him…

I’m going to guess waitlist, because it’s a regular envelope but as I said, at least two pieces of paper folded thickness. But maybe it’s a personalized rejection. Congrats to you and all those accepted.

It was waitlist. So, for those trying to guess, it was a regularly sized envelope, but thicker. Again, congrats!

Accepted from Chicagoland! (Waitlisted at Swat, so not too bad)

Nothing in the mail today or yesterday from Haverford. That makes me worried :-S I guess I could call but I don’t really want to hear bad news over the phone…

Aww be hopeful!! @Tarahific

curious did anyone get accepted to both Swarthmore and Haverford? congrats to all with good news and to those who didnt get the news they wanted, remember TO LOVE THE SCHOOL(S) THAT LOVE YOU BACK!

Yes, there are students who are accepted to both. And there are students who are denied at one but accepted at a different school within the consortium. There are also students who are denied at Penn but accepted at Swat or Haverford (and vice versa) but still take classes at Penn or Swat or Haverford or Bryn Mawr and do quite well. Being denied doesn’t mean that a student isn’t qualified! It means that the fit wasn’t there or that the niche that the student filled was already filled by a different applicant.

@3girls3cats Are there actually people who were rejected from Swarthmore that got into Penn?

Well of course there are! I don’t have the numbers for this year and I don’t work in admissions but it’s true every year.

@3girls3cats thx for the info. just was curious as Haverford was an outlier with my S with the only rejection (so far) and into other top LAC including swarthmore, pomona, bowdoin , middlebury, wessleyan and kenyon. I guess they didnt think he was a good fit. I am sure geography living in Pa. with a school so small that is building a diverse class didnt help either. If he goes to Swarthmore he will def take courses at Haverford as it is a wonderful school. I actually think it was good for him to have a rejection. Life is not about everyone loving/wanting you.

Accepted today! I luuuuvvv Haverford. Waitlisted at Swat, accepted at Bryn Mawr, waiting on Penn. Pretty terrible FA though. They expect us to contribute about $15,000 more than FAFSA says we can contribute, so idk where that might come from. I visited haverford during their multicultural seemed in October. They really emphasize personality and feeling of fit. Most people I met had competitive stats and stuff but less competitive personalities. They look for collaborative people above some other qualities, so it’s not uncommon for one to see kids accepted at other intense/competitive schools be rejected. Good luck to all

Congratulations to all those newly accepted! And to all those rejected or waitlisted, don’t take it too hard. It’s a very small school, and the competition for admission is tough. They are definitely looking for a particular type of student, I think, so it may not be that you’re not qualified, but maybe they just felt that the fit wouldn’t be right. FWIW, my son is just completing his 4 years at Haverford and loved every minute of it, but it was not his first choice so I agree with momof2eagles who says “love the school(s) that love you back.” He was rejected from every Ivy he applied to, but he was given great opportunities to shine at Haverford. His personality also closely matched Haverford’s views. It truly was the best fit for him.

Congrats to accepted, D offered generous first year grant, but having an older sibling in college am afraid of how much her aid will change in future years. Anyone with similar concerns?
