RD Oberlin College Class of 2017

Just called admissions, letters will be sent out “sometime this week, probably in the next day or two.”

Thanks confusedcats :)

Getting antsy.

I need to know ASAP, since spring break is approaching and I need to schedule visit to Oberlin for D, if accepted. Oberlin is the last school on her list and I am just tired waiting.

My daughter got an acceptance email yesterday saying that she was part of a select group of outstanding students who have received their acceptance early in order to participate in the MVP ( Multicultural Visit Program). All expenses for the MVP program will be paid including airfare, ground transportation, accommodations and meals.

Waitlisted!

I’ve got to hand it to them. They were gentle about it.
“Your application has made a strong and favorable impression. If a space becomes available in the class of 2017, we would like to be able to consider you for it.”

Like all we need to consider you is someone else dropping off from the accepted list. They make it sound so simple.

“If we do have openings in the class, Wait List decisions will be made on a rolling basis beginning in early May. You can expect to hear from us between then and July 1st either offering you a place in the class or letting you know that the class is full and that we are unable to offer you a place.”

I’ll admit Oberlin was not one of my top 5 but it was one of those colleges I would’ve considered going to if they offered good financial aid. All the best to everyone, especially those who really really love Oberlin.

Wait, did you get it in the mail or was it an email? Lastly, which state are you in?

Oh man I wasn’t expecting Oberlin until tomorrow though…yikes 0.0

Azazel, I’m sorry to hear that you got waitlisted, but take comfort in the fact that you still have a foot in the door and I’m sure you’ll end up at another, if not better school :)

Thank you, ivyvision  I wish the very same prospects to you too. Yes, you’re right. Knowing that there is still hope and a chance makes me feel better

I got the email just 20 minutes ago. It was included in it that a detailed letter is on its way via mail (the last letter I received from Oberlin took 9 days to be delivered). Also, I’m an international student.

Good luck to everyone and remember to be gracious about your successes (and disappointments). Regular decision is tough and most of the good news comes early…

D just got the same email, waitlisted also. I agree, they phrased it nicely, although D isn’t sure if she’ll accept a place on the list as she’s happy with her current options. The emails came today (midnight our time) for international students, I assume. Although D is domestic, she studies overseas so she got on the email list. Hopefully the letters for the rest of you are on the way! I hope things work out for all of you, one way or the other.

Just finished talking to their Admission Office folks - the letters were mailed today…

Rejected :(

I am sorry to hear that IBinLux. Did you get the decision through mail?

Rejected again. What a pleasant surprise in the morning to get.

Condolences to all.

ibinlux, hard to feel too bad for you. an admittance to colby and a free tide to st. andrews!

@StaticRoar: I got an email last night.

@quietdesperation: I understand what you are saying, it’s just that I really liked Oberlin. Oh well… :)

I am an international student applying to Oberlin and have not yet received an email. Should I be worried? Since it seems that those that have already received their decisions by email are international students.

I’m an international student and I haven’t received an email either. But I think it’s because I live in US so they’re sending mine through snail mail.

No news in central IL today
