Hi, I am just about done with the lower division CSU transferrable lower division general ed. I have completed these classes at a community college. In many areas I have taken more than the required amount of classes. I am wondering who or what determines which ones will transfer. For example, I have a ton of completed classes that fall under social sciences. Some grades are better than others. I would like to transfer the ones I have an "A" in but not the ones with a "C." I can't find any info anywhere about how this is handled.

Also, CSU has a requirement in US history. I completed the classes with a "C." I do not want to transfer those as I have better grades in the other general ed classes that share the same category. My community college certifies completion of the requirement so does that mean that I don't have to transfer those specific courses? Thanks.

I’m sorry but you do not get to pick and choose what classes you want to transfer. They see everything on your transcript. The only thing that does not transfer are the non-transferable classes you’ve taken(If you’ve taken any). For example, let’s say you have taken 4 classes and get 3 A’s and a F on the non transferable one. Your transferable gpa will still be 4.0, but your cumulative gpa will be I believe a 3.75. Once you get a grade for a class, it’s on your transcript for ever. You can make up bad grades and the new grade will override the old one.

I had and F in a class so I retook it with a B and my gpa jumped.

@mermaker what happens if you get a D or F in a transferable class, since those grades don’t transfer it should not effect transferable GPA right?

It also sounds like it might be better to let yourself get an F instead of a C. If you get an F you can retake it and get an A or B. If you get a C you are stuck.

^^^That is bad advice. If the OP wants to go to law school or any other professional/grad school, the school may factor in ALL grades including the F in the GPA.

OP, all of your classes will transfer unless you repeat them or get academic renewal for them. You are only allowed to repeat or get academic renewal for classes you got less than a C in. Even if you repeat them or get academic renewal, they will stay on your transcript and you will have to put them on your application for transfer and any future grad school apps.

I was not intending to give advice, I was asking a question. I should have worded the post a bit better. ^^^^^ thanks for the answer. It just seems “unfair” that someone who has gotten several Ds and Fs could end up with a better GPA , then someone who received a couple of Cs and Bs.

Well, it is fair, because they had to retake the class and they had to put in the effort to get the better GPA. Furthermore, as I just said, they will have a LOWER GPA in some grad/prof school admissions because those Ds and Fs will be factored into their GPA.

Everyone has the opportunity to drop a class with a W with no effect on their GPA.
