Reaches and Matches for me?

Hi everyone-

I have a solid list of safeties/low matches, but I am looking for some more matches and maybe a reach.

Gender: Male
Race: White
State: OHIO
HS: I attend an all boys Jesuit school, the top feeder into UC and OSU honors programs

ACT: 30C 32M 31S 31E 24R probably won’t submit unless I retake
New SAT: 1440 740M 700RW
GPA: 94/100 uw, school does not weight GPA

Schools: Ohio University, Ohio State University, UCincinnati, Miami University

All of these are safeties, even OSU based on the admissions statistics my counselor showed me of students from our school. I am hoping you guys can help me find some matches to apply to. I am looking for somewhere within 5-6 hours… St. Louis, Chicago, Central PA, Michigan, Tennessee (I am willing to go further). School size is not a big issue with me, nothing too small though (less than 2000). I would like to have a decent sports scene, whether it be at the school, or in the city. Setting is also relatively flexible; it will just depend on the school.

How much can your family afford? What do you want to major in?

Colgate.

@ErinsDad our family can comfortably afford 20-25k a year. We won’t need financial aid at any of my safeties. Also, I plan to major in finance, Econ, or math, depending on where I attend.

@merc81 that’s funny you say that because I was seriously considering Colgate for a while but it seems a little I’m practical now with my scores. What made you say that?

You mentioned “sports scene,” which signals Colgate to an extent.

You may want to clarify re practical/impractical and post your SAT score percentile equivalents.

For a reference re your interest in the study of econ, this analysis can be helpful: “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges,” IDEAS.

Re your general criteria, a minimum enrollment preference of 2000 may be counter-productive, in that it comes in just above that of colleges with both wide-ranging academics and full (particularly participatory) sports programs (often 1800+).

All my SAT percentiles are from 94 - 98. I don’t really understand the difference between the user and sample percentiles

What do the schools calculate your family is able to afford?

“Colgate . . . seems a little I’m practical now with my scores” (#4)

This requires editing/clarification as it relates to an important aspect of self-assessment.
