So the housing website says freshman admitted last year (fall 2014) are guaranteed 3 years on-campus housing. I was on the tour yesterday, and another guy in the audience said that for new students admitted fall 2015 are going to be guaranteed all 4 years. The tour guide who didn’t seem to know much anyway had no idea. Does anyone know? Perhaps UCLA hasn’t decided if they will be able to guarantee 3 or 4 years at this point, that is why it is not published on their site yet. Anyone know?
Is anyone having trouble finding the housing application button? I can’t seem to find it on the Star Rez Portal…
Should I get a regular dorm or community theme?
Hey, y’all. Quick question about OCH. I have neck & back problems, and I’ve found that only type of mattress that keeps my pain in check is latex foam. I have a twin XL latex foam mattress. Anyone know if I would be able to bring my own mattress, provided it is bedbug-free?
As a freshmen, if I apply for a triple plaza will I most likely get it? Or do upperclassmen get priority
Is it true that deluxe residential halls are usually filled with upperclassmen while classic residential halls are mostly filled with freshmen?
@CalDude2020 I’m wondering the same thing! What’re the differences between deluxe/classic res halls?
Everyone: should I go for Deluxe Double or Plaza Double? Deluxe seems bit cheaper (saves about 2000 dollars each year) but, as this post describes it, Plaza seems more fit for me, as I am a bit secluded (but not so much as to befit me to suites). Is Deluxe double more comfortable than Plaza Double (shared bathroom)? Can anyone give me some details comparing those two? And which one would you advise me to choose? If Plaza Double shared bathroom is better, do you think that about extra 2000 dollars per year is worth it? (please tell me if the price difference is wrong). Also, how can we choose to pay for the room and board monthly, quarterly, or in full?
Thank you!
@amanda9077 and @10s4life Most freshman will be assigned a triple and if you find roommates you each enter the same information on your housing preferences and then you follow the instructions for submitting roommates. It is outlined on the housing website and if you follow it correctly it works. Just go with the assumption that you will be assigned a triple. Very few doubles available and most go to current students. My D is a freshman and the doubles in the deluxe halls were already filled when she went to select her room for next year. She is in a classic triple and loves how social the halls are.
Hi! I’m having trouble with my housing application for 2016-17. I’ve been trying to upload my “passport-quality” picture, but I keep on getting an error message even after trying different browsers and shrinking the picture size. Anyone with the same problem? How to resolve it? Thanks.
How likely are freshman to receive a deluxe triple
I’m also having trouble uploading my photo. The housing application requires a photo before continuing with the rest of the application. But every time I try uploading one, an error occurs and the site says
“Sorry, there was an error in processing your last request.
This error has been logged; please return later to submit your request again.”
sigh any clues what’s going on? and the deadline’s fast approaching too
@crazytsundere Same issue here. Hope it gets resolved soon.
Tried it a few minutes ago and it seems to work fine now. Housing application complete!
Hey guys! I got offered a triple/shared bath at Hedrick Summit. It’s definitely not what I preferred because of costs, but I’ve pretty much convinced myself That I won’t be able to switch into a res hall. However I was wondering what the differences are between the two Rieber plazas (vista and terrace I think?) I’ve heard great things about Hedrick because it’s filled with freshman and pretty social, but I’m debating if I should try and swap with someone in a Rieber plaza because Hedrick is just so far and I get horrible aches in the veins behind my knees from walking a lot. But I wasn’t sure if I should attempt to do that or not. Any advice would be helpful!
I was offered a double in Rieber Hall. I’m glad I got a double, but I was hoping to get a deluxe for the A/C! Anyone else get a double in a hall? I hear most freshmen get triples.
@starfish3 i would definitely switch. summit is super far up and the courtyard is very anti social because literally nobody who doesn’t live up there has a reason to walk by there. rieber court is close to everything its in the center of the hill there are always students around its friendly and social. perfect place to be for a freshman. rebel vista and terrace are very similar they are both plazas with AC.
Does anyone know how Fir (De Neve) is like?
@Tajmahal it’s at the bottom of the hill so its closest to campus but it’s really boring socially dead. De neve dining hall is in your courtyard which is good cause that’s the best dining hall best food and they serve late night food after hours. It’s a nice place but socially dead.
Thanks for replying. Yeah, I picked De Neve so I can concentrate more. I get easily distracted haha.
