Read it and weep

I wrote an essay, it's over 500 words, and I didn't have a particular prompt in mind. I thought maybe I could use it if a college has a free-choice option, but I wrote it mostly so I could get used to writing again before I work on my real applciation essays. I cut out some of the better vocabulary because It didn't sound right, and I still don't think it transitions properly. Anyway, I'd like to know what you all think because I'm not sure if it's good enough to send anyway. I'll pm it if you want to read it.
