<p>Where you applying? ED, EA, or RD? Writing about Lady Gaga as inspirational is risky but could work depending on where you’re applying.</p>
<p>I’m using it as a national merit semifinalist essay right now, but I’m thinking about using it for University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, NYU, George Washington University, and Northwestern, all regular decision. I still have some time so I might just write something else if I chicken out hahaha</p>
<p>I think everyone would agree that it’s a risky topic. Being inspired by an artist is a common theme but Lady Gaga isn’t a recognized genius like Tchaikovsky or Bach. What support do you give for your theme?</p>
<p>I assume from your list of schools that you’re interested in engineering or the applied sciences. If your SAT score is above 2300, your SAT II scores above 750, and you have right proper ECs, then you have room for risk taking. If you have more average scores and ECs then you probably should get a writing teacher’s candid advise before making this your common app essay. Good luck mate.</p>

<p>I have a 1450 on my SATs (reading and math), not so stellar SAT IIs (a 700 in US History and I’m retaking Math II and Literature), a 4.30 GPA, all honors and APs but I take band and Latin which lower my GPA, I’m very active in the music dept at my high school (marching band, musical, etc), I’m secretary of Young Democrats, and participate in mock trial and a few other extracurriculars, and have tons of community service with Habitat for Humanity and activities in Interact club. I’m not sure how high my chances of getting into schools like NYU and Northwestern are, so I wasn’t sure if I should take a risk with a creative essay.</p>
