Read without getting bored

How do I read without getting bored?

I know it's horrible of me but I grew up reading quite little and I totally regret that. For that reason though, I just can't sit still or concentrate when I have to read something.

Tonight I have 40 pages of my government textbook and 100 pages of a novel for English class to read.

Any suggestions?

I'm absolutely god awful at concentrating too. 40 pages of ap euro can take me 4 hours because I keep having to go back and read the same sentence 20 times and I day dream etc...so no advice but this will bump this thread

I have the opposite problem. I am interested in reading but I am tired; I sit too still and fall asleep. The text stops making sense and I start to think weird things are happening in the novel that don't follow. Sometimes the story melds with my dreams and it's scary.

In response to your question- try exercising beforehand to reduce your fidgetiness. Try positive reinforcement, like "I can eat a bite of this caramel apple every ten pages." Try to actively visualize the scenery and action. Bring yourself into the material. Forget your real-life stresses and become Washington crossing the Delaware. Or something.
