Hello! So I’m a sophomore in high school, and I recently took a practice ACT test. Math and english were very easy for me. I got a 34 on them both. Science was a little bit tougher, but it was manageable. I got a 30. However, on reading, I received a 25! My main problem was just that I’m a slow-ish reader, so I had to just guess on some questions because I was running out of time. Can anyone give me tips on how I can bring my reading score up to the 30s?
Keep on doing reading practice tests — those will help you raise your score. When taking, slowly decrease the time you give yourself on the section until you can finish all the questions within the section.
As for the reading itself, your goal should be to finish reading each passage in 4 minutes and finish the 10 questions for that passage in 4 minutes. That gives you 32 minutes to work and 3 minutes to check answers. Once again, train yourself to read faster by managing the time you have. It’s important to read just enough detail to allow you to answer the questions, but not too much or too little to compromise your score. Hopefully this helps! Reading was my hardest section too, but I managed to get a 36 through continuous practice. It’s certainly possible to do well if you are willing to put your time into it!
