Hi all:

I have been practicing couple of SAT reading comprehension questions. I have been improving slightly. I'm pretty decent at science, history and art passages etc. However, whenever I come across a novel-passage, I get 70% clueless of what it's talking about. The detailed descriptions of certain things just bothers me. I have a hard time comprehend these novel-text. Can anyone relate to this? Any advice? THANKS

Yes! I used to experience this. Here are some tips I recommend.

1.Make sure to read something “intellectually challenging” or at an advanced level every day, and attempt to understand the meaning.
I recommend reading the Economist Newspaper or NY times.
2.Improve your vocabulary by looking up challenging words in the passages and committing them to memory using flashcards.
I suggest making online flashcards through quizlet.com
3. Take an SAT prep class perhaps one that offers targeted reading comprehension tutorials.
I recommend TESTMASTERS.COM for their online or classroom courses, their pretty expensive so use the promo code: 9691232182
4.Most importantly: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
