I got a letter from Penn financial aid office today saying they were missing 2 documents. They requested that I fax it ASAP or mail it in their enclosed pink “priority” envelope.

Does this mean I got in? Or am I reading too much into this?

No, I think it just means that if you don't submit those 2 financial aid documents ASAP, you'll get screwed with regards to FA in the case that you're accepted to Penn.

I would think that this late in the game if financial aid is still contact you then Penn must at least seriously be considering your application. There is no way they could create aid packages to all 20,000+ applicants, so it would be logical that they only do so for acceptees or strong candidate admits.

But again, I'm not Penn, so it's all guesswork.

It definately can't be a BAD sign.

Yep, you got in. Trust me, this has been a sign of sure acceptance in the past. College Confidential, we have our first regular decision. which school did you apply to?

dont trust a damn word banker says. i really hope you did get in rooster, but please dont get your hopes up at all. if i remember correctly, PennHunter got a similar letter during the ED round, and was absolutely positive he got in, but was deferred and then eventually rejected (sadly :( ). someone please correct me if im wrong, but i really just think they want your FA info. they dont need to send this letter to everyone as not everyone forgets stuff about FA, just a few do. again, someone correct me if i am wrong with pennhunters case, but i believe he was in a very similar situation, and it got his hopes way up.

i do think however, that you should still believe in your own chances :) keep your spirits up, and you'll get what you want :) i know im tryin to be happy here...if for any reason to pass the time faster and relieve some stress.

It is more likely that FA is not putting together a package for everyone; they are instead going through each file to make sure all materials are ready if a student is accepted and you happen to be someone who's stuff isn't all in.

impBOY you shoud learn how to search archives before you try to discredit what someone else says.

Pennhunter says:
So I'm not accepted yet but I think my counselor got a phone call because the other day (Wednesday) she told me not to apply to all the schools on my list any longer. Of course I asked why and she said "I think you are going to get in, I just have a feeling the way the process has gone you willll make it. I said well do you think I will get in the joint degree?? and she said I don'tt know why you wouldn?€™t?€? If you knew my counselor she never tells anyone they have a shot at an ivy and a couple of weeks prior she told me that it could go either way but I was a good applicant. Do you all think the undergrad office started contacting counselors and my counselor knows something I don?€™t know?

That situation is nothing like this one. it's just an inexperienced a counselor giving her students bad advice.

missing financial aid information is only requested after decisions are made so that applicants can receive their award notification promptly. The month of april is important when applicants are choosing between schools, and Penn wants to maximize its yield. If they delayed getting financial package to their students they'll lose potential matriculants to schools that have made attractive awards before them. Also, since they're done with decisions, why would they ask him for missing information if he was rejected?

that it is a very positive sign, especially since making financial aid packages requires a lot of time/effort. however, i agree with impboy that rooster shouldn't be 100% positive he got in until decisions come out...

Well if that's true then I got into Middlebury...

ah ok, point well proven banker, i am sorry. probably shouldnt have made my opening sentence so aggressive sounding. didnt mean to make you sound untrustworthy or anything, really im sorry no harm meant.

sorry to you as well rooster. although i still dont think you should be 100% sure, you should at least try to relax a little i guess. if you are in on this, congrats, but ill save the official for the real decisions thread :)

as explained by adcoms during on campus tours:

admission and finan aid run parralel paths during the application process, once you are accepted, they cross and merge in to one.

supposedly, finaid and admissions are separate. however, at this point, i think what many are saying is true: they've accepted you and are preparing your finaid package.

haha it would be terrible if you were rejected rooster. (You name reminds me of my Relay for Life time "rooster juice" - we were almost disqualified because it was inappropriate, haha)

but I'm rooting for you. :)

relay for life TEAM

haha thanks everyone. I think amazon said it best--it's certainly not a bad sign. Either way, only 11 more days until I find out!

banker88: I applied to Huntsman/Wharton

Banker88 you dont deserve an apology from impboy. pennhunter really did get a letter from financial aid during the early round, and he wondered if he had gotten in. maybe YOU should learn to search archives first.

getcrunk123:
wait, PennHunter, aren't you the kid that said you got that financial aid thing with the PIN letter?
So I'M the first one who said you were getting in! I told you!

pennhunter:
yes i was
Still let's not jump to conclusions. I don’t want to jinx myself

there.

I think you all are right...if they are making your financial aid package you have a good chance of being in...HOWEVER, don't assume so and then get crushed come March 29. Lucky kid you are rooster.

Let's not forget the "waitlist" status.

ah ok thanks for clearing that up lulu. and yea, try not to overlook the waitlist rooster, because im sure that they do prepare FA packages for thos epeople as well just in case they need to take one of them.
