So, I spent my first year at the University of Arizona, flunked out, lost my scholarship, yadda yadda.

Fast forward two and a half years and I've taken Summer 2012(just after flunking out) to now at a local community college(in California, where I moved from and am still a resident of). I intend to put out transfer apps this semester, and wanted some input into possibly transferring back to UA.

My major is Aerospace Engineering, but during my year there it was Biosystems Engineering. I enjoyed life at the school(too much so, as I focused more on enjoying life on my own than studying), but I'm wondering whether I should play it safe and transfer to somewhere closer to home just in case, or throw myself back at the mercy of Arizona. It's not been long enough for Academic Renewal, so suffice it to say it would be unlikely for me to get financial support(or even qualification for my program, I flunked out /bad/), but my grades and other performance at my CC open up the possibility to return.

Do you feel like you will be able to keep yourself focused and not be distracted by the same sources? If it were me, I would want a fresh start somewhere else because I wouldn’t want to be tempted into falling back into old habits.

@shawnspencer I have considered a fresh start elsewhere, a public uni somewhere closer to home, but I’m familiar with the school and the surrounding Tucson already, so I feel it might make it easier to focus on my schoolwork rather than giving in the urge to explore campus and the surrounding city. When I left, I abandoned long term plans to stay in Arizona(housing, job search, etc), and since I already had plans, it may make it easier to settle in there than at an entirely new university.

However, without financial aid, I highly doubt that I’d be able to afford to go there and live and focus on schoolwork. I intend to speak with counselors over the phone either tomorrow or Monday, but I don’t know whether I’d have a stable situation in Arizona, certainly no more or less than I would at a university here. I’ve done well with focusing on my coursework at my CC here, even while holding a retail job(through the holidays too, what a nightmare!), and I feel like that’s prepared me to go back and conquer in Arizona.
