Not completely settled at a "better" college

Hi guys. I'm currently in my second semester of engineering at the University of Michigan - AA and originally from Tucson, AZ. I love the University of Michigan and according to all the rankings it is a much much better school for engineering, especially Mechanical which I plan on doing. However I always feel unsettled on my choice coming here instead of just going to the UofA like everyone else from my high school (3 of 190 went out of state including me). I'll admit, I had the perfect childhood, family, and friends and love Tucson and I'm just realizing that and it's really hard leaving that behind. I know it wouldn't be completely the same if I went back but I could at least enjoy 3 more years of being a "kid". I guess my question is, would it be that bad if I just transferred to the UofA? I'd really appreciate answers in both an academic sense and life sense ("you need to grow up at some point" or something like that). Just a quick note, I have friends here (nothing replaces decade long friendships though) and heavily involved with the FSAE team here.

Thanks for taking the time to read internet friends. An outside opinion would probably set me straight.

Once you graduate and start looking for jobs, are you going to limit yourself to Tuscon? Even if it means giving up $5k+ a year? What if you can’t find a job in Arizona that meets your requirements/ interests? It’s a lot easier transitioning to independence of “adulthood” in college (living away from family, making new friends), than finding yourself in a different state a mere 4 years later with no connections. 4 years doesn’t inherently change you, it’s the experiences over those 4 years that will prepare you for the rest of your life. Homesickness now is a lot easier than dealing with homesickness later. Can’t put off being an adult forever.

I am going to a college 14 hours away from my house (by driving), and doing internships 3 hours away from my college and 17 hours away from my house (by driving). I might be biased, but I’m a lot more self sufficient and independent than most of my classmates. I’m already planning for my retirement and balancing my budget.

Besides, you can always visit.
