I’m taking Real Estate and Investment Principles in the Fall semester at CSULB. Being a Finance minor, I don’t really have a strong background in business. If you have taken these classes before or something similar, can you tell me what these classes will cover? Would they require really intensive knowledge in other business fields like accounting or economics? How difficult are they overall? I’m taking 3 other language classes as well, so I am hoping things won’t be too overwhelming for me.
If you have any advice, please tell me. Hope to hear some replies soon!
Nobody here will know the details of what is involved in a specific class at a specific college. Your best bet would be to 1) look at the course description and pay attention to any prerequisite courses 2) if you have any questions contact the professor or department head.
@happy1 Why did you have to be captain obvious about this…? What I want to know if anyone has taken something similar, by the name of the classes, maybe they can tell me their experience. I mean, it’s not like I just blindly signed up for those classes.
@philbegas Yeah, those are two different courses. I have only taken Finance 300, which is the basic Finance class. That’s it. No other business experience. XD
@Whateverchan I honestly tried to help and not everyone thinks to contact a professor or department head particularly when they are not currently at school. I don’t understand why you felt the need to reply in such an obnoxious tone… I come here as a volunteer trying to help but since you don’t like what I have to say (FWIW I have 30+ years of business experience and my S recently graduated from a b-school) I will put you on my “ignore” list so I won’t see and reply to your future posts. Hopefully that will make you happier.
For the record @Whateverchan , happy1 is a great resource, but there’s a lot of posters that come on here asking questions without really doing any research which can be frustrating.
Have you taken accounting, and did it cover all of the ratios used to value stocks/companies?
Funny, because I actually thought his reply was obnoxious and somewhat condescending. Maybe I was just grumpy. Whatever makes him feel better.
@philbegas Nope, never took accounting before. I have only read and learn some accounting related stuff, pretty basic, from finance class. Things like NPV, debt ratio, next dividends, etc.I also read a few things, like key terms and basic lessons on Google and Youtube. That’s about it.
Oh boy, looks like I’m gonna struggle real hard in these classes, huh?
In any case, FIN 340 and 350 don’t seem too bad. If you did ok in FIN 300 then you should be ok. After all, investment principles is the one of the logical continuations at most schools after intro to finance. I know it is at Drexel.
However, I could see it being a little tough because I imagine the class might use a few terms here and there that you might have learned in accounting or economics or statistics so if you’re lacking in any of those areas I stress the importance of taking copious notes
