Realistic or not

I go to a US public high school. My ACT is a 33 composite but my best subscores are 35 ELA 34 R 33 M 32 Sci with 8 Writing. I’ve got 4 on APES and 4 on APUSH and 3 on AP Physics I. I’m applying for the CS school. I took 1 AP sophomore year, 5 junior year, and I have 4 this year. My school only offers around 14-15, so I’ve taken the hardest courseload I could take. My weighted GPA is 4.7 and unweighted is 4.0. Do I need anything else to apply, and does anyone know how good they are with giving merit and financial aid to US students? My household income is like 60k USD.

Have you taken two SAT II tests, @gibsonfender? McGill’s website is very straightforward with requirements for entry and minima requirements for bursary award consideration. Good luck! Also remember that tuition and fees are listed in Canadian dollars, which gives US students a significant $$ boost.

I took SAT II’s but for a different school and didn’t do that well just because I didn’t had a lot of time to study. The website said that I needed an SAT + SAT IIs or an ACT score, so I just sent them my ACT scores. Yeah McGill popped up because of the price comparison with Universities here, even with int. tuition it’s not at all bad. If I could get an entrance bursary or other need-based aid I could realistically go, and I think I have a decent enough shot.

You are likely to get in, assuming that your UW GPA is 4.0 out of 4.0. I do know that McGill values a rigorous schedule.
It is unlikely that you will get much, if anything, in financial aid.
SAT tests are unnecessary if you have the ACT. 33 is a good score.

Yeah my my UW is 4.0. It should still be after my 1st semester grades come in as well. From looking at their financial aid pages and stats as well as scholarship info I may be able to get enough to be able to go, but if I don’t then I don’t I can’t really control being broke.

@gibsonfender @57special - I mentioned the SAT II subject tests because the minimum ACT score for scholarship consideration is a 34. Review the minima standards here: https://mcgill.ca/studentaid/scholarships-aid/future-undergrads/entrance-scholarships/criteria. I hope you find a way to make it work!

It says Math grades need to be A- minimum. What if student has B+ in a (very rigorous) Calc Honors class from 11th, and is currently getting A- in AP Calc BC in 12th? Is “minimum” literal? SAT is way above the requirement with SATMath 1 and SATMath2 both in high 700s, and SAT2Chem also mid-700s.

Any insights on whether this will qualify? (CS/Eng major).

@sunnyschool They will likely ask for your mid-year grades if they have not already.

@sunnyschool “Minimum” the way the McGill website refers to it is different is than the minimum grades you need to apply/be accepted. It means the bottom scores that people who were accepted last year had. These grades don’t guarantee admission because the pool of applicants this year is obviously different than last year, but it’s safe to say if you’re far above the minimum you’re likely to get in.

My school only does A,B,C,D,F nothing with plusses or minuses, what qualifies as an A minus vs. a B+ for most schools?

A- = 3.7
B+ - 3.3

I was referring to like on the 0-100 scale. For example, if I get a 91 in a class, what would that be?

@gibsonfender A 91 would likely be an A- if from an American high school.
