Braine, fellow indian here. Sorry, I don’t think you will make Princeton :(

Cause 1) 11TH grade marks are rock bottom
2)Everyone here does same type of courses
3)Nothing too significant I could find on your post
However… Essays may help you get in…so you never know :)

@Falcon, thank you for the great advice. I see what you are saying and I now understand that the essay has to be more personal.

A rep from UChicago told me outright that I will never be able to get in. No, wait, actually he told us my ACT is in the ballpark but that my SAT won’t fly no matter who I am or what I do.

Good to know!

I wasn’t even really thinking of applying, I was just saying hello, but my dad and I laughed about it. Ironically we came home to a same day generic mailing of an oversized postcard from UChicago with my first name written in gothic block letters consisting of pictures of Chicago and the campus. I put it up on the fridge because it makes me laugh. Here’s where you’d better not even think of applying! Ha ha.

wow u actually have a very unique story and really really good stats and ECs. can i guess…BCA? u have a great chance

@condor

I get mail from UChicago all the time. I read the marketing politely before throwing it into the trash.

Haha I don’t even bother reading the vast majority of those letters. They honestly annoy me. So many people think that getting these letters means that the school actually wants you. When I received a letter from Harvard, I glanced over it and then got rid of it. Honestly, I think the ivies should only send letters to students they ACTUALLY want. The ivies don’t need more publicity. Students will apply even if they don’t get the letter.

…i almost applied…glad i didnt lol big fish in small pond where i am lol wudnt be that way at bca

You’re not missing out on anything. Trust me, lol

@Falcon1 “show, don’t tell”? Lol, I think I find an mit blog buddy here! Am I right?

I think you definitely have a chance. No one can truly be a match for an Ivy so it remains a reach for you - but I think a low one!

@nowHerekid Nope, sorry I’ve never been on the MIT blogs.

Make sure you understand the importance of essays…some people are saying your app contents sound a bit bland. Essays can help

Hi,
I am a Grade 10 Foreign student - sadly, from India, but living in Qatar (The Middle-East)
And while I should be writing this two years later, it’s never too early to get your feet wet.

My GPA in Grade 9 was 9.6 (96%)
My GPA in 10th (So far) is 10 (100%)
Previous GPAs are all consistently above 95%
My current GPA ranks me as 1st in a class of about 270

I will most probably be opting for the ACT instead of the SAT, or maybe even do both.
So without test scores, it will be immensely challenging to figure out my chances.
So here is a few tool to help -

My IQ is between 133 and 149 (The International High IQ society, the testers, won’t give me the exact number till I pay them a small amount) - so the logic-based SAT questions should be considerably easy. I am a class topper in my curriculum - so the ACT might be comfortable too.

I want to study International Macroeconomics and Political science/ International relations for a probable career at the UN.

Harsh criticism, anyone?

Your outline looks similar to most other well qualified candidates. I am not certain that knowing your IQ will be helpful in any way to your application so not sure it’s necessary to get that information before applying.

I would encourage you to exercise some prudence with regard to your approach to standardized tests. My son (also an international student and top in all his very difficult classes) had some difficulty with the SAT the first time around. Partly this is due to the fact that knowing HOW to take the test is just as important as knowing answers. He took time to study and re-evaluate after the first take and improved his score by 250 which was adequate. I am not well versed in the ACT as he never took that test. Essentially your scores need to fall within the upper range in either test to be considered a viable candidate. Even recruited athletes need to be within an academic index (set by the Ivy League, I believe) to be accepted. These scores form an important part of your application, but will certainly not guarantee admission.

As has been repeatedly said on this forum, your essays are extremely important in the admissions process. When the time comes to apply, take time to plan, write, edit etc.

You have a strong shot at Princeton and make sure to write killer essays about your research and coming from an eastern European country. Also, make sure to score high on those SAT subject Tests which I’m pretty sure you will so that won’t be a problem. Otherwise good luck and I will be rooting for you and tell me if you get in.

Hi everybody

I’m new on this website so FYI about that…

I’m a junior in high school and obviously that means thinking about college… that’s why I’m on this forum after all. My pride has ensured that every college on my list is top tier, so I’m just wondering if I’m completely screwed… I’m aware that the whole college admissions process is corruption/capitalism at its finest. Everybody tells me I’ll get in anywhere I apply, but big-fish-in-small-pond as I am, I don’t believe them. Let me know what you think.

My stats:
Public School (ranked second in my state, the first being a charter); 4.0 GPA unweighted; in the running for valedictorian
Course load: all honors, AP euro sophomore year; AP chem, AP calc AB and AP us junior year; will be taking AP physics, AP lit, AP calc BC, AP french, and AP gov next year.
Scores: 233 on PSATS (probably will be National Merit Scholar); yet to take SATS but will hopefully score high on May 3rd
Awards: French II award, Award for Outstanding Achievement in Biology, Ruth B. Plummer Academic Achievement award, National Merit Scholar (probably), United States Senate Youth Program State Finalist
Extra-curriculars: volunteer on Youth Court, youth representative on the Youth Court Advisory Council, volunteer at local nonproft, Studant Ambassador, Class Council (VP), 3 sports, 4 years, Global Actions Coalition
Leadership positions: Vice President, youth representative on Youth Court Advisory Council, hopefully captain on sports teams in fall

Any chance at all? I’m planning on doing something this summer, along the lines of start program/ write book/ start company

Any other advice? I know my extracurriculars are somewhat weak and don’t point to any specific interests…

^Where do people like this come from…?

You have no test scores and too many "probably"s. And yes, if you only apply to top 10 schools you most likely won’t get in anywhere.

Also, please read your first paragraph and think about how it sounds.
