@therichwhitegirl: It strikes me that you’ve not taken the SAT or ACT yet. I hope one of these is in your plans in the near future. If not, you limit your potential retakes to bump up you scores.

But I agree with @1sparkle2: you don’t come across well at all in your post. Top colleges want people who want to contribute to a community – frankly, are likable. None of that comes across in your post. It’s not the lack of substantial ECs – it’s the lack of connectivity or desire to be connected with others – classmates, community, etc that will get your application the quick read – i.e. not read further.

You’d be frankly stupid to only apply to very competitive colleges. Pride blinds us to stupidity – all the time.

My suspicion is that a 1-post wonder with the user name of therichwhitegirl is a ■■■■■, especially considering the absurd comments the post contains.

In case anyone is wondering, I (OP) did not end up doing too well. I ultimately got rejected from Princeton, 4 other Ivies, a top LAC and a top public school : /

@spuding102 I will be attending a T20 LAC (I don’t want to reveal the name to preserve some basic anonymity). But ultimately I didn’t have too many great options because I only applied to 11 schools, with 6 being reaches, and only getting into 4.

At first, I thought it would be absurd to apply to a large number of schools. In retrospect, I think it is a good idea to apply to a lot of schools, especially if you want to secure admission into a top school. I’m wondering how I would have fared at schools like Cornell, JHU, WUSTL, Vandy, Northwestern, Georgetown, which are of course very selective, but not as much so as the Ivies I applied to. I guess don’t put yourself in the same position as me lol

What do you think my chances are of getting into Princeton? Or any other ivy for that matter.

I just finished junior year at a normal public high school.
4.0 unweighted GPA, 35 ACT, 2260 SAT, SAT II: 800 Math 1 and Physics, 790 Math 2.
I’ve taken AP Gov, Physics B and Calc AB, will be taking Calc 2 at college next year and AP English and Chem
probably will be a national merit scholar

EC:
4-year varsity swimming, 3 years jv of tennis and cross country.
I intend to swim D1 in college, I will likely score points at the Ivy league conference meet as a freshmen. (don’t know how much this helps, because Ivies don’t take athletics into account, right?
I am the athlete representative to USA swimming from my statel governing body for swimming
4-years scholastic bowl
3-years as opinions editor for the school newspaper
2-year member a club where we read books and blog with elementary school partners
Member of NHS and Quill and Scroll

This summer I’ll be attending a fairly selective engineering camp at a state university.

One possible problem is that I don’t have much by the way of service because I’m swimming once or twice a day year round.

Thanks a lot! This thread is really helpful

Princeton definitely takes athletics into account. If your times are good enough to help the team, there is a good likelihood that the coach will help you with admissions. I’d recommend contacting the coach asap. Good luck.

Hi, I wanted to know what my chances look like.
I’m a white female from a small town in Montana. I spent my sophomore year attending school in South America, I speak German and Spanish fluently, I have participated in Model UN for 4 years, Academic Olympiad for 4 years, Academic Worldquest for 2 years, founded a Girl Up club, am a teen advisor to the United Nations’ Girl Up foundation, intern with my city’s manager, have a job working at a watch company, am the treasurer of my student council, am studying documentary making in Cuba this summer.
I am the valedictorian of my class and got a 33 on my ACT. I also have 2-generations of legacy at Princeton (my grandfather and father both attended school here)
Thanks!
