I currently have a 3.7 GPA in Community College as my first year with 37 credits and I was wondering if I have any chances of being admitted to UF as a transfer applicant when I get my AA certificate(60 creds), I will be applying into their biology program. I know that this major is limited access and has a finite amount of seats for the most competitive students.
My concern is that UF will shrug my application as less academically competitive simply because I am a transfer applicant, especially when it comes to their Biology program. I will be taking Calc 1, Bio 2, Chem 1-2, Phys 1-2 and some other math classes for my second year, < this will allow me to reach my 60 credits so that I could transfer. I am confident that I will ace all of these classes. So I should be expecting to apply with a decent 3.7 GPA.
If anyone knows of someone that got in to UF’s biolgy program by transferring, please share, or personal experience. Thank you!
The state of Florida university system (which include UF, FSU, UCF, FAMU, UNF, etc.) is setup to accept transfers from CC’s. The majority of transfer students do come from CCs (and not other 4 year universities). Don’t worry about the CC being a competitive disadvantage.
If you keep a 3.7+ GPA, I’m sure you’ll be a very competitive applicant.
I don’t think it’s unusual at all to transfer in from a Florida CC. Have you checked out the UFL reddit to see if there are posts from other students who have followed the same biology pathway?
